Kitchen Cabinets colour scheme

Dear Houzzers!
We have decided to re-paint our (open plan) kitchen doors and cabinets (other options were to replace it or change the cabinet doors).
We want to go for a cream or white Farrow and Ball full gloss paint (the kitchen is darker corner of the room with no direct sunlight), but concerned that a creamish colour will make the kitchen look cheap.
Would appreciate for your advices/opinions on the colour scheme as well as your experience with F&B or other brands (kitchen is laminated MDF). Pictures of kitchen are below.

Comments (5)I was going to go for 600 x 600 mm floor tiles. You can probably just about tell from the computer generated image I wont have space for much of a splash back. I like the grey in the first photo - it's neither too dark or light. On the opposite side of the main kitchen run i'm also having a bit of a splash back because i'm having a 1200mm base and wall units fitted. The worktop will run down the side of these units. I'm set on having a granite worktop to be honest! My main concern is the room looking too white. That's why i was thinking of painting the ceiling the same color grey as the glass splash back. The appliances on show will be all be stainless steel so that will break up the white a bit. Maybe paint the plinth the same color as the ceiling and splash back as well? Or perhaps darker floor tiles, darker walls and white ceiling? I'm not great with matching colors! It's costing a fare wack so i really want to get it right! Comments (23)rachelnapier - yes will post some pics just need to find them and get them loaded up. Re mcslw comment - on the advice of our architect we knocked out our useless utility room. The kitchen was built as a square room but as with a lot of houses like mine built in the 1990s, they put in a utility room which served to sell it as having a 'utility room' but all it did was turn a square room into an L shaped room and being on the east side blocked out most of the light - it also became a dumping ground for stuff that should really have been housed in the garage! Knocking out the utility room and inserting two windows on the east side has dramatically change the amount of light - as have two sky-lights (its a single storey/bungalow). Appreciate that in a house unless you extend you might not be able to do this. People that have seen the before and after have asked where the extension starts - but we haven't extended, the light in the room and the space we have gained from knocking out the utility room has created a much larger / lighter space. Our utility room is now housed in one cupboard (with washing machine and dryer stacked). We now have room for a dining table and are currently in search of a small sofa to complete the room. Comments (1)I think the problem is that your cabinets and refrigerator at very dark and heavy and your walls and splashback are very white. The refrigerator matches the work surface, so that is fine. Assuming you cannot lighten/change the cabinets I would make the walls and splashback darker. Smoked grey mirror is popular and affordable in a small space such as this and could give you a very nice finish, not to mention make the space feel larger. Comments (3)It's an awkward one as a lot of the kitchen is in the dining area, and the space that you don't want to have a table & chairs is opposite the sink. You could put one of the armchairs there. Keep the sofa where one is at the moment. You could go for a darker cognac leather or dark grey. Grey tones go with the brick. A nice bright rug would look good, but I'd keep the walls light and airy as they are now. In order to place something like this arrangement, you will have an armchair near to the sink. Although the kitchen is lovely...........If you ever have the budget, i'd consider moving the kitchen around. Change the island possibly for a smaller one and turn the side run of units along the left hand wall to across the room for 'U' Shape, giving you a much better sofa / lounge area....See More- 10 years ago
