Hi, just wondered if anyone had any ideas of how to beautify this fireplace (excuse the mess!)
I've painted the surround white and was hoping for suggestions as to what might work in terms of replacement tiles.

Comments (16)I personally like the brick fireplace, but I can see the need for a mantle. If you don't like the brick facing I would maybe clad the two sides and top with a steal, maybe stainless but probably something a little more rustic, this could then appear to hold the mantle which I would do in a reclaimed oak or something to match the shelves in your living room. I would then remake the shelving to the left in the same material, possibly add lighting and a little shallower, I would also add a modern log basket, I agree that shouldn't touch the stone as it goes through the rest of your home, by the way the rest of your home looks great!...See MoreFireplace advice

I would keep it!The candles may look a little too ecclesiastical here... try more modern items on it to bring it up to date: black and white photos, collection of Japanese teapots, retro looking radio, origami creation, little cacti ... it has great potential and could be the ideal place for a little vignette area! Comments (11)I have to say that I don't like how they've done it. It looks very heavy and crude, imbalanced. But I was thinking that you could perhaps use oak, like the beams, and white to make it a bit lighter and keep it free from the floor, so you could use the space under it for wood storage if you like. So wanted to sketch that for you, but hooray... found the perfect image of what I was thinking... Comments (9)Ooo thanks so much for the response. I love these ideas. I prefer the soft white look of the limestone. But the Carrara marble would be more authentic to the era. So it’s tough to decide. Particularly like the last fireplace surround on your first post (the London fields house). That looks to be a Carrara marble. Do you think that option would go with our fireplace insert tiles? 10 years agoThere's so many tile designs you could pick and it depends on whether you want to go bold in pattern, plain or colourful or neutral. My favourites titles at the minute are the hexagonal ones but here's some images which might provide you with some ideas

I paint lots of different pictures of birds, animals and flowers.
