Advice for our little London living room
Comments (11)I love your sofa and assume you need to use that door next to it.... Agree with everyone that built in shelves on either side of the fireplace would be step 1. Rather than having your tele in front of the window, how about having it in the alcove to the left of the fireplace, but having it swing out so that you can view it in all areas of the room? I would then put the trunk in front of the window and your new armchair where the trunk is. A lampshade that doesn't create a pool of light under it would be better. Something round so it gives diffused light and then a lamp in the corner near the sofa on a little table, or a shelf built into that alcove, would be lovely for ambient lighting. And I think a stove that you can't or won't use would be a waste, there. If you would use one, by all means, put one in. Otherwise, you can get simple, industrial wall brackets for guitars and other instruments. Your guitar would look gorgeous mounted in there on an angle. I'll try and find a pic of what I'm talking about, but they clip into place and then when you want to use them, snap them out again.... pretty and practical!...See MoreDecisions decisions - go dark or not?
Comments (20)It looks like a fairly large, light space so I would definitely go for the darker, bolder choice. I also agree with the majority that keeping the arch, but enlarging and squaring it off, might be better and leave you with more flexible spaces (it will also save you money!) If you get rid of the fireplace (which is pretty unispiring) I would make sure you still have some kind of feature there to add impact - console tables with mirrors over them work quite well. The beauty of the darker grey is that you can accessorise with pretty much any colour and it will look cool....See MoreShould I go for a fire in the wall or a more traditional look?
Comments (4)I prefer the first option with the brushed metal frame around it as looks very modern and doesnt take up any space at all. Just as a thought though might be worth you re-posting your question in the design dilemma section as you will get more replies in there generally rather than in the other section where it is now as its not as easy to find posts in the other section as they dont appear in the top part of the advice section. (in the bar at the top where it says advice). Hope this helps :-)...See MoreBig lovely old wood fire surround dilemma with wall colour
Comments (7)Beautiful room, and yes that does look like a unique fire surround. If you want a blue in the De Nimes sort of area but with less grey in it, Stone Blue might work for you. But personally I'd be tempted to go darker, eg Hague Blue, Scotch Blue (on the F&B Colour by Nature chart, I think) or Inchyra Blue (just sticking to the F&B chart as I know it well but of course there are lots of other gorgeous deep blues out there). Looks like the room could handle it - perhaps with a large beautiful Persian rug with navy and red tones on the floor (sorry but I think your current rug is too small - though perhaps it's just a radiator holder!). Would be very cosy and I think a dark blue would complement the honey tones of the wood very well....See Morerumpythen
