Window dressing - what to do!?

I love the windows in our house, apart from the rot here and there but we'll get that resolved soon. What do I do though to dress them? I was thinking of leaving downstairs with nothing, we're not overlooked and in a fairly quiet village road. Is that sensible? What about upstairs? I have 2 small grubby children to contend with in case that limits/influences choices!
