Oh my word, you have my dream room, I love the mid century look so please keep those pitch pine piranha ceilings and teak floors. You can restrip and varnish the floors or one of the best things I have found is using a floor polisher (do you remember they used to use them at school to clean the sports hall/ assembly hall). You can hire these from HSS and will bring it up beautifully. You can also get them on ebay. Combined with a shag pile rug the room will look wonderful.....good luck

Hi there, I would agree with the above comment. The plants sit well but if you do decide to fit any storage etc I would make them floating storage space so your beautiful floor can still be seen and this will also draw the eye into the space further. Perhaps you could put a floating desk in with some cool lighting and make it into a internet snug or a cosy reading corner. Here's a picture of a hall cupboard I converted for a Client in Edinburgh which also added value to the property by creating a new room.This is a more quirky industrial style than the sleek design of your hallway but demonstrates what can be done with a small space and how effective clever lighting can be too. We put 'hello' letter lighting in this space but a simple phrase such as 'boo' might add a sense of fun under your stair.

Hi, Your room looks massively better stripped back to the original. I've got a black marble hearth that the people who bought my old house didn't want. If you're near Canterbury you're welcome to it.
