Need help with feature wall in kitchen
Comments (42)Wow, you have done a great job already with your kitchen. You have had so many great ideas re. the wall there isn't anything on that I could add. To solve the problem of the chairs hitting the wall I would either opt for a huge floor to ceiling mirror which would encourage one and all to be careful when leaving their seat or my preferred option would be to replace the chairs on that side with a bench. I'd cover the bench in either shabby chic cushions or a deer or sheepskin rug for comfort and I'd play with table decor. Get chair covers for the redundant chairs and use them in the bedrooms - one in each corner. Then for formal dinner parties or for when the table is extended you simply remove the covers and add them to the table and you can still use the bench if the table is extended....See MoreHelp choosing tiles for flooring in my new kitchen??
Comments (50)Hi Getty Welty What a shame about the worktop but I think it's almost a blessing in disguise. Once you have settled on the worktop my advice would be to take samples of the cupboards & worktop to a tile shop and look at them altogether. You really need to see a large tile together with the other samples to appreciate the overall look. A 10 x 10 sample is only a representation of the whole tile and the colour changes on a larger scale. We always advise our customers to do that if possible as its really important to make sure the overall tones work well together. Good luck with it all Karen...See MoreHow do I keep my new kitchen floor clean?
Comments (5)there are several DIY products out there specifically design to clean grout. Most are chlorine based and can be found in most tile shops or online. Oxygen peroxide is another common solution. You need to be careful as both methods can discolour your tiles (depending on tiles type and quality) and you should concentrate on the grout only, using an old toothbrush. However, always remember that cement based grout in porous and will inevitably get dirty again. Another DIY solution is to use grout pens, available online. Those pens are relatively inexpensive and simply colour over your grout. There are no permanent solutions to dirty grout I am afraid and regular maintenance is required. The only way to reduce grout staining is to use epoxy or urethane grout in the first place. Epoxy and urethane grouts are waterproof but a bit more difficult to install as DIY job but offer better performance than cement grout....See Morekitchen floor tiles : to the wall or just to kitchen unit?
Comments (9)You're the customer so have it how you want. Its more expensive to tile wall to wall which is why lots of kitchens are only tiled up to the legs, but its getting more and more popular to have the kitchen fully tiled before fitting like they do on the continent. When we have a kitchen to fit and its been tiled we lay hardboard over the floor to protect it, so it is an extra small cost. Accidents can happen though like dropping the oven but that could of been an old existing tiled floor that could be chipped and no replacement tiles available. Also its harder for your fitter to install as he has to scribe and seal all your decor panels to the floor when its been tiled is another reason installers prefer it to be tiled afterwards....See Moreeverandeva
