Kitchen advice needed,

We need some kitchen advice,

We are thinking of getting a gloss grey kitchen with white worktops but we are now thinking it maybe too dark and the gloss may need to be cleaned all the time, the room is 13ft x 23ft with one large window above the sink.

Do anyone have any advice ?

Grey is very on trend and will be great for a kitchen but you should be prepared to repaint when the grey trend moves on. If repainting is not on option then choose a more timeless colour.

Having fitted dozens of gloss kitchens, I don't get any negative feedback in terms of requiring extra cleaning. Micro fibre cloths are your friend! They don't need any more cleaning than matt finishes. Gloss grey is a popular colour.

The layout of your new kitchen will depend on a number of factors, not least where the waste water from your sink, dishwasher and any other appliance that uses water, enters the drainage system. Moving any of these is not normally a problem but you may be restricted as to where certain appliances need to be positioned in the kitchen because of where the drains are. The usual method of planning a kitchen is to design the layout making sure you keep the distance between the key elements to a minimum. Having the food preparation area close to the sink, cooker and fridge will ensure you don't wear yourself out, running from one side of the room to the other. Without seeing the size and current layout of your kitchen, it is impossible to make any further, useful, suggestions. Choose your kitchen fitting company vary carefully and don't be shy in asking lots of questions, if they are any good, they should answer all your questions in detail. Hope this helps.

Why stick to plain white (although I agree that it's easier to change the wall colour than the cabinet doors)? If you have a sparkle in your worktops, why not continue with a sparkle in your cabinets? Will still work with your grey walls (and any future colours you might paint them) - will be different and will allow you to add "pops of colour" (how repetitive are design magazines) of any hue you choose! You'd normally fit the drawer handles in the middle of the fascias. The dishwasher handle could have been dropped down but it's a personal choice. Most are fitted towards the top. I don't think anyone will notice as they are not together. I'd leave it.

Its a subjective question! What you think is dark, others wont. Personally, I don't think gloss grey is dark due to he refective nature of the finish.

Ok, well this is what we are thinking, what other colour would you recommend ?

I also considering cashmir but im not sure what it would look like in a real kitchen,

You make another good point, this is one thing I originally thought about a lot but that went out of the window when we could not choose one we all liked. except this. I do want a timeless colour, I dont really want to spend 20k on a kitchen and then repaint it 2 years down the line.

any advice for me ?

Major colour trends have historically run for about 10 years each. The current major grey trend started to come in around 2010 so we're about half way through it; therefore you'll likely get more than 2 years but at some point it will look out-of-date. What are the colours of the other fixed elements in the kitchen?

We are in the middle of a full house refurb, so at the moment we are working from scratch,

The only 2 colour I know we will have some elements of are stainless steel (sink, fridge, maybe cooker) and white (maybe tiles or worktops)

I love the contrast of dark grey & white but I think that will date quickly. A paler grey may not be so bad but cashmere is more timeless.

I'm in same dilemma I'm either thinking light grey or Cashmere but hubby loves white. I just think it's too stark. I think just like the browns and creams the grey will be gone soon.

I've just had my kitchen fitted (still not quite finished). We have light grey gloss units on the walls with a dark grey gloss island, worktops are Silestone white platinum. I have white walls and will be adding blue glass light shades over the island and other blue accessories. Doesn't look dark at all. We were a little worried about it dating but grey is a neutral colour and I think it will be fine. White kitchens look great but just a bit boring and safe in my opnion. We have grey wood effect tiled floor which I love. Excuse the mess this is a new extension and I've moved my kitchen to the opposite side of the house so I'm still using my old kitchen. The electrician is back to finish off tomorrow then I will be moving in. I can't wait.

We still can't make a choice, we may need to go in store and have another look, white seem to be out of the question at the moment, everyone we know seems to have white.

It is a hard decision especially when it cost so much. The photos don't really do ours justice they make it look a bit dull but it's actually very bright. We have coloured LED's under the wall cabinets, above the wall cabinets and on the plinths so we can change the colour to whatever we like. Just gives it a different look. Good luck with it.

Emma I love your kitchen. Ours will look very similar with th double ovens so nice to see it. I love the grey gloss too.
