Is it strange to have completely different colours in different rooms?
Comments (10)Hi, I have a different colour in every room, but by that I mean soft or deep colours, not bright clashing shades. For example my living room is a pale green (F&B Cromarty) all over, leading to my kitchen which is a pale duck egg (Dulux Mint Macaroon) and a navy feature wall (Little Green Woad). Not all rooms need a feature wall and sometimes it can complicate your colour choices. I certainly wouldn’t paint your hall stairs and landing in different greys, stick to one colour. Also grey looks lovely in some lights and grim in others. Light is everything as Marylee states. Another thing is that your colour choices need to gel with the other items in the room such as sofas and furniture. I realise having to decorate a whole house can be daunting, but I would concentrate on one room at a time, make up a mood board featuring furniture styles, wall colours, flooring, accessories etc. If you are finding this difficult then start another post for the first room you wish to decorate, share pictures, and lots of people will give you advice. We’ve all asked for advice on Houzz at some point! Good luck....See MoreWhat colour to paint for living room with duck egg curtains?
Comments (4)Hope this gives a rough idea showing the duck-egg curtains, white tv units and the piano with the sofa almost the same kind of dark brown colour, plus the light grey carpet. The walls are currently in magnolia. I had a thought after posting the question, perhaps having one wall in blue would look a bit strange so thinking if I choose a light-med grey for the wall behind the TV and the wall behind the sofa, then an even ligher grey colour for the two remaining walls (around the window and the wall behind me). This way we sort of let the curtains be the focus of the room? (sorry currently the room is too messy for a photo so I had used an old one masking the family and window view) Thanks!...See MoreInchyra blue feature wall, what colour for the other walls?
Comments (12)The stone looks to be quite neutral which is probably good (some stone such as the type found in the Cotswolds can be very strongly coloured). If the room doesn't get a lot of natural light then I would personally avoid neutrals that may be a bit too cool or a bit too grey as it may look drab. Shaded White is lovely and could work really well with the beams. That would be my starting point. I would test paint of large sheets of paper and pin them up in the corners. Put them next to pure white paper too to see the colour. If you whitewash the walls first, then you can gauge how much light it gets and if it looks cold....See MoreBathroom feature wall colour or same colour on all walls?
Comments (5)I agree with the others - go for it! It’s going to look fab! I like the dull greens more than the more foresty greens, I had a bathroom painted that colour many years ago, and I think it’s less likely to go out of fashion. It’s verging on being a dark neutral....See More- 9 years ago
