I think your instinct is spot on - the grey does not go with your lovely house at all! You said yourself, 'the grey craze', why follow the herd? Perhaps you should question why you want a 'contemporary colour' instead of one of the many choices which will enhance your beautiful period house. You don't see lovely pink Suffolk cottages, or the black and white half timbered houses characteristic of some areas daubed with grey because it's the latest fad.

Thank you for the suggestion. We had images with the original porch but unfortunately time and budget don't allow us to have them recreated. I'm glad you agree that a string colour is needed as my builder is keen to put on s modern oak door which I feel will get lost with the white, brick and clay tile colours. Railings is currently my favourite although I'm using it in my kitchen and have a grey bathroom too, Si wondering about deviating, maybe card room green or castle grey (which is more green than grey) - both F&B.

Grey is my favourite colour right now, however I thin your door need a bit more depth to it. A deep burgundy or blue would make it stand out. I would suggest hanging baskets either side of the door complimenting the door colour too. Leave the door frames white though to match the windows. Hello - that sounds exciting and it will be so nice to have the additional space. My first thought is to have the roof cut into the side of the house similar the first image below or to add a faux brick facade that is similar to the house (second photo). If those things are not possible then I would add elements to both the garage and the house that are the same...for example, have your front door and garage door match so they look like they belong together. See third and fourth photo. My thought about parking and again, helping the addition blend in would be to make sure the paved parking area extends to the front of the house too (last photo)...this way you will have plenty of parking and it will help tie the 2 parts of the house together.
