Bare flooring! Especially if you have beautiful floor- why hide it?

It's a bit unusual, but we'd have to vote for poured resin flooring! Warm, soft and elastic - it's really comfortable underfoot with or without under floor heating. And it looks really elegant when combined with rugs to add focal points and a different texture!

It's selfish to have bare floorboards upstairs if you live in a converted flat. I live in a conversiion and the person upstairs has bare boards in the kitchen, which happens to be half over my bedroom, and the consequent noise is disturbing. I don't expect them to have carpet in the kitchen, but a vinyl-type would soften the blow, both figurativey and literally. The semi-detached house next door has wooden floors in their sitting room on the same floor as me and I can hear the echoes of their conversations; the foot-tread must be awful for the people below them.

This reads like a terrible rant, but I assure you I'm happy with my neighbours and accept all the benefits, as well as the shortcomings, of flat life!

Carpet is safe, timeless and ageless. It will suit any room or decorating style. It gives you greater flexibility with wallpaper and fabrics and is easier to build schemes around - both now and in the future. It also opens up a room and using the same colour throughout, either upstairs or downstairs, does give a feeling of space and link rooms. If you want a surface texture, such as the popular 'natural look' that replicates coir and sisal, then it has to be plain carpet.

Hardwood flooring really helps showcase a staircase. A rug along the passage way should add character to the space and not make the area look too bare

Definitely agree with Friedlander Design - area rugs work brilliant as 'demarcation' and add texture or warmth - including using carpet runners to lead the eye. Given the very considerate concerns for shared buildings and neighbours, it's worth pointing out that a resin floor is elastic enough to absorb a lot of noise - our floors have up to 20dB impact sound reduction. Aside from resin, I think hardwood flooring has got to be the winner - so classic and so versatile as you depend on rugs etc. to help it evolve with your interior. Similar motivations behind a Sphere8 floor (but sometimes a little too modern for some!)

Bare floors! Nothing beats exposed timber flooring.

A room will naturally feel warmer when the floor is carpeted and your feet will enjoy sinking into a nice velvet or shagpile especially in the bedroom, also your downstairs neighbours will appreciate it, but nothing quite compares to the look and feel of a beautifully stained or varnished solid wood floor and a well laid and maintained floor will always add value to a home.

We might be bias, but we do love a carpet underfoot!! The great thing is our carpets can be custom made into rugs or runners, perfect to use over hard-floors or on staircases - best of all worlds really!

The best flooring in my eyes is epoxy resin floors, ideal with underfloor heating and total bespoke for each client

I recon LVT is the best type of flooring if anyone is looking for non carpet flooring! great to use with underfloor heating too.

it totally depends what room....bedroom is a definite carpet, whereas lounge would be wooden flooring with a massive rug....bedrooms and snug rooms have to be cosy tho.! :-)

Carpets are always a more comfortable base apart from kitchens and bathrooms!Bedrooms and living rooms a must!
