Re 1. Changing to window...
I agree - perhaps a window seat might work well there ?!
Re 2. I wouldn't remove the door - but perhaps consider replacing the wall with a crittal style glass divider and opening, if it is compliant with what's needed for fire regs ( as can't see how many floors you have in this building !) but agree that improving the sight lines from the front door would be a bonus!
Re 3. That's probably very similar to how I would do it initially - they can be zoned so not all on at once ! Pendants over island might be nice - but again depends on what's going in the island - lighting really needs to be designed at the same time as detailed kitchen design !
Re 4. I think the utility needs to be sub divided so that you can gain access to the study without wandering past (dirty) laundry - so have left half as boot room / en route to/from car things - and route through to study - and have laundry on right half . Put laundry appliances on right outside wall so sound transference lessened in study and tumble dryer can be vented.
I would maybe consider reposition the fireplace in kitchen so it's central to space left for dining - rather central to whole room, but again that's dependent on the finished kitchen design, which should be designed to suit your family and routines etc - not just to suit the room shape !

I agree with OnePlan about the door - keep it but some kind of glass door / partition would be nice. Without one, you'll get cooking smells throughout the house. However as mentioned, check building regs. In our renovation, we had to have fire doors for all doors leading off the hallway, downstairs as well as upstairs. Good luck with it!

Hi - to give you an idea of the kitchen layout if have added the an early design drawing. Note the kitchen pic has the right dimensions but the wrong doors and we have not decided on colours yet.
Also added one for the type of fireplace we are looking at.

Wonder if you'd move the door to the study to the kitchen.

Hi. Personally I'd leave the existing lounge doors and save your money for the crittall style doors OnePlan suggested! You don't need to use them, they may also be handy for hot months (not sure what style of window you were planning as to what would let in more breeze). My maths may be wrong but I think you normally allow 1 downlighter per every 1-1.2sqm and start them c50cm in from the walls. As Karen said, wire them separately and I'd also go for dimmable ones . Directional ones can be useful for the kitchen and add under cabinet lighting. I'd also add pendants for the island and one for over the dining table, then depending on furniture etc add table and floor lamps. You appear to have a door to the study from the kitchen in the actual kitchen design which would work much better? Are you having a sofa in here as the TV position looks awkward? Which way does the room face as I had to move my tv in my old south facing living room. You could perhaps just have the fire where planned and the tv elsewhere? I agree with Karen again re vented tumble dryer if you're having one. You could also move the external utility door over so you could have coat/boot storage against the garage wall. I also think you need a larger wine fridge :)

Originally we had the study door off of the kitchen as you can see in the picture. But when we have had the latest drawings done we moved it to the utility room as we felt it gave us more space in the kitchen. Study may also become granny annex in a few years.

I like the idea of directional lighting although reluctant to put a pendant light over the dining table as we will move the table for parties etc.

The room is north facing although there will be a skylight near the fireplace.

I agree with all comments on the utility room and we will design it with boot room then utility room at the end.

Watching TV from directly underneath would be awkward but we will try to keep it as low on the wall as practical. However room is not really intended for watching TV but I am sure the kids will have other ideas.

On the doors, our gut feel is that we should have the option to shut the kitchen from the hall, however, not sure that crittal doors would fit in. Has anyone fitted large sliding doors? Are they any good?

And larger wine fridge now being spec'd out :)

Totally agree with number 1 and number 2 - No need for a doorway to the garden from the lounge, so makes sense to swap it for a window. The door from the Hallway to the kitchen / diner, agree again, it would be very nice to see right the way through the house from the front door, therefore a glass wall and door combined gives you the best option, the house is large and needs something grand.

Number 3. That's a lot of spotlights and contrary to the recommended spacing. They'll be around a foot apart at my reckoning. Here's a page dedicated to sorting out the amount of spots and the spacings / wattage. I figure you need around a third of what you've got planned, roughly!

Recessed Downlights - what to know

I'm pleased about the wine fridge :) just a thought but if this could become a granny annexe is it worth further proofing the plan for an ensuite? I've no experience of sliding doors I'm afraid but you could always create a specific post for that
