Hi Jonathan It’s just plywood boxing in pipes. Ideally I think the work top should be deeper or the boxing should be removed and replaced with a flush to units filler panel (we need a gap as we have a wine fridge to slot in there...but as I’m not a kitchen fitter I’m not sure if I’m asking for the right things!!

Floor, doors, worktop, tiles, walls would be the order for me. Try to pick it all together in one go. And look at the colours in the actual space. Light affects colours. What looks grey in the showroom, might look blue in your room, for example. Floors first, because you either already have a floor or the newly bought floor needs to flow from one room to another. Another tip: make a moodboard. Either online (you can use your ideabooks here on Houzz to create a moodboard for your kitchen, with photos of kitchens, colours and other things that you like), or cut ideas from magazines and put them all together. You'll get a good idea of the look you'd like to create and it can also help you to keep focussed when making choices.

Yes, you're definitely looking at legs for that distance. obviously the join will be the weakest point so make sure this is well supported too. Look at the moisture content for kiln dried wood, this is what most wooden tops are to prevent warping and movement in the future. If possible, bring the wood inside the house at least a week beforehand and leave it flat somewhere so it can acclimatise before fixing. good luck

I know that Milliput is a very good material for repairs such as this. I don't know how the white would look against the worktop but it will certainly look much better than it does now. I used to use it years ago when repairing picture frames - it gets good reviews.
