help with utility work top

We have paid for an upgraded Kitchen and utility in our new house. And I am really not happy with the finish. I expected the Errol to be wider and cover the boxed in thing or for it to be removed totally and filler panel added to hide pipes. Advice?

Is that a boxed in thing or is it a wall? If it’s a wall I think there was never any way it was going to disappear. However I do think the kitchen fitters should add a filler between the end cabinet and wall and include extra filler between the top of the wall and the worktop

Agree with Man About the House. We too have just finalised an all white, handle-less kitchen and it looks fab. There is no need to worry at this point as there are always things you can do to warm is up or dampen the clinical look. Once complete and you know how the space feels, you can add any warm touches as suggest by Man About the House. Did you not get a 3D render of the space? You have a wonderful opportunity to get what you want but your floor area looks very narrow, you might want to see how much space you need to access your washer and tumble dryer and how much space for folding sheets. Do you need all those doors if you have one into the kitchen and having the external door opening outwards would give you more space. Also to get rid of the corridor effect, you might want to think about moving the unit to left of utility entrance. Depending on your vacuum cleaner, you might be able to get away with a narrower unit than the standard 600. If you haven't already done so, it is worth measuring the cube of the equipment that you need to store. Hope this helps, good luck.

mate...i Iive in nz. in Christchurch we had a wood burning fire , where we live now..way at the top where the lions were on the weekend...no heating needed!!!! we do have double glazing and our house faces the sun, and the sun gives off heat here in the winter so it warms it all day unlike some peoples winter sun! but go with whatever is the best for your furniture . ...and budget !

Here’s a few things I’m doing in our planned utility (smaller than yours!) which might work for you: - Electric towel rail for heating so I can easily have that room heated when the general heating is off. Better than underfloor heating for this scenario as ufh is quite slow to warm up, also the towel rail can be used to dry off wet gloves, hats, coats in the winter. - Pocket door so it doesn’t get in the way of any cupboards - Mirrored splashback and handleless doors to make the room seem wider (ours is only 1.7m wide, not so necessary for you perhaps) - Stacked washer and dryer using stacking kit with pull out shelf between. I find this easier than having everything at floor level. If you want yours side by side, I would suggest raising them up a bit to save your back, and get drawers fitted underneath to hold all the laundry liquids. Otherwise, I’d suggest a slim pull out unit nearby to hold the liquids. - I will get a section of worktop made to fit over the sink so I have more workspace when the sink is not in use. - Broom cupboard organiser like this one: https://www.hafele.co.uk/en/product/pull-out-vacuum-cleaner-accessory-rack-full-extension-load-capacity-40-kg-steel/0000009e000086d000060023/#SearchParameter=&Category=W7zAqBtG8MYAAAFPNrI4lnbm&checkbox_fs_wardrobe_fittings_product=Cabinet+Storage+Systems&@P.FF.followSearch=9972&PageNumber=1&OriginalPageSize=12&PageSize=12&Position=7&OrigPos=&ProductListSize=30 - Wall cupboards! You don’t have any on your plan? I would certainly add some, or open shelves which are more practical but less tidy. In fact I’m having wall cabinets and another row of wall cabinets above them for things used occasionally (christmas decorations etc) as we have high ceilings. - We will have a tall slot next to the broom cupboard to hold ironing board and ladder. - How about a transom/clerestory window (up high) to add more light without getting in the way of cabinets? Or, a narrow window each side of the door would fit, since wall cabinets aren’t as deep as base cabinets.

It’s just plywood boxing in pipes. Ideally I think the work top should be deeper or the boxing should be removed and replaced with a flush to units filler panel (we need a gap as we have a wine fridge to slot in there...but as I’m not a kitchen fitter I’m not sure if I’m asking for the right things!!

I’m afraid we don’t live at the house yet. And when we were discussing the kitchen the pipes where still visible, these was no sign of the box covering. So hang expected it to appear, assumed it would all be covered by the kitchen units etc. Stupid mistake by us I guess
