Hi Anthony, Thank you for your helpful reply! The Denim Drift room is lovely in the picture and I love the contrast with the white. I'm thinking of getting this Flos pendant light in Chrome:

The kitchen ceilings are not that high and are divided over two levels so the ceiling lights we've looked at are often blocked by the ledge next to the light fixture. I think longer pendant lights may be too low and we don't really have any surface space for them to hover over so the sideways design of this light seems to work. We do have small built inceiling lights and cupboard lights in addition but they don't give us enough light.

In the Denim Drift, would you recommend the colour in your picture or a lighter shade? I understand that they can mix it in a few shades.

Great choice of light! Love the shape and finish.

For the denim drift I would definitely go for a shade as "dark" as the one in the picture I included. Remember that with a small room when you are in it you will see the walls and cupboards but not so much the ceiling so it won't feel "heavy" but just go for the shade you feel comfortable with. If you want to go for something a little lighter and after one layer it feels like you can handle darker then change it! It's a small area to paint so the cost wouldn't be crazy.

One more thought. We have been discussing painting just the higher part of the ceiling blue (as the lower part really is quite low and this would break it up a bit). Do you think this could work or would it look awkward? Thank you in advance!

Oh I thought you meant the whole ceiling! I would do both parts in the same colour as it will make it look more unified. Otherwise I would be worried that it will highlight too much the fact that there are two different heights, and make the painted part look a bit odd. Just my opinion though!

I personally think that painting just the higher part of the ceiling can be very original and give your kitchen a super cool look. However, what Hutsly is suggesting just above maybe true. Anyway, if I were you, I would just paint the higher part first, see how it looks for some weeks, and if I don't like it I'd paint the whole.

Anthony, I did mean the whole ceiling originally but we started to think just doing the higher part might be a way to use the dark colour but ease into it. But I very much see your point and worried about this too. Damian, thank you for your comment. The good thing about the kitchen is that it shouldn't be too hard to change if it doesn't work. We have also considered just painting the window woodwork/frames denim drift or another shade of blue - I have been googling for inspiration and don't see many examples of this and how much of a difference it would make.

You are very brave painting the ceiling but I think it will be such a statement piece in your home it will definitely be worth it!

You could tie in your ceiling colour with a new window blind. Pictured below is a denim effect translucent fabric called Pacific, this is shown on a Premium Roller Blind with Pelmet but you could opt for a simple Roller Blind. Or could keep things fresh with a crisp white blind in Blossom White to match your cabinets.
