Need Advice On Island Worktop
Comments (5)Hi I recognise that plan! Good to see you on another advice forum. Duropal make I think around 6 of their colours of laminate worktop upto 1200mm in depth. Really it all depends on where you are getting your kitchen from and their suppliers. For example if we are getting laminate worktop from a UK supplier then we get it from a 'cut and edge' worktop supplier, not just a 'blank' board supplier. A cut and edge worktop supplier will supply laminate worktop to a plan we provide, they will pre cut the masons mitre joints and profile all the edges. This is so much better than the fitter cutting blanks and gluing on laminate edges. I know from previous discussions on the other forum you were looking at Schuller kitchens, I assume this is not your choice now as you would not have these problems you are talking about with the laminate worktop, because Schuller have a huge range of laminate worktops, with lots of edge options and in all sizes! Anyway, ask your kitchen man about getting a price for the laminate worktop from a cut and edge specialist. CK...See MorePOLL: Kitchen divider - hit or miss?
Comments (39)This picture of one of our projects is definitely dividing the opinions! Our customer is a part time chef, she wanted an area in her large kitchen where she could store her ingredient jars as well as smaller kitchen appliances that was still on show and easily accessible but also in their own separate area. She had seen a similar idea elsewhere. Please have a look at the rest of the kitchen project pictures, there are two cooking areas and a very large island. For a smaller kitchen I agree that there could be better use of the space but it works very well in this instance. Who am I to argue anyway, our customer loves it! :)...See MorePOLL: Matt or glossy kitchen?
Comments (387)Matt or Gloss are both very nice. There are so many other things to consider, it really depends on what kind of overall look you are creating. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. Talk it through with your local Kitchen shop or other related trades, like tile shops etc....See MorePOLL: What's your kitchen worktop material?
Comments (127)Another vote for Dekton and Sileston Quartz worktops, use them all the time in our projects as so much more forgiving and low maintenance than granite or marble. Agree that Corian is a good option if you have a large island to prevent visible joins, whilst it has other benefits you do need to be very careful when it comes to heat. Vast range of colours and textures in all types nowadays so the type of material shouldn't limit the effect you want to achieve - be that traditional or contemporary. I am always a big advocate that a worktop is an investment, there is no point spending a large sum on a beautiful quality kitchen and then finishing it off with a worktop that won't stand up to time as well as the rest of the room or cheapen the look - I always recommend to go for the best you can afford....See More- 9 years ago
