Kitchen colour help needed
Hi Houzzers,
We were hoping to get your advice on what you think the best colour scheme would be for our future kitchen.
As you can see, our existing kitchen is pretty tired and old fashioned. We've lived with it for 6 years, and whilst functionally it was adequate, it's time to upgrade! (Yesss!!)
Staying are the slate floor, ginger windows (sigh...) and appliances. Initially I was thinking of gloss cabinet doors to enhance the illusion of space, but I'm going off the idea. A more timeless design perhaps would be better, though not too traditional, as long as it is easily cleanable. The current yellow kitchen doors have millions of grooves that's a nightmare to clean!
I'll also attach my design plan for the new kitchen. What do you guys think?? Please ignore the worktop suggestion as we decided against a solid worktop except perhaps for the island and the breakfast table.
On the picture with our dog Sonic on, you can see a dividing wall between the kitchen and the breakfast room. That's coming out.
We'd really appreciate any advice from layout to lighting and especially the colour scheme.

7 years agolast modified: 7 years agoI agree, you need to get an expert kitchen designer on the case. I agree that you need to keep light and airy. Plain is good as it add to the illusion of space. I personally think that the large American Fridge freezer is too big for the room, uses up space that could be better used. Also, it's a big old grey lump and if you want to go for open and 'spacey' go integrated. As it's large and grey it sucks light out of the room.
You could also go for some of the very pale blue / greys which would match in with your flooring or the very pale sagey greens, which would do the same.
Get the layout right first!
Fridge Freezer removed and integrated with worktop added, creates more space.

Comments (11)Yeah I haven't thought about when the sideboard is in place, with it being white gloss with a silver trim I thought it will still look all the same colour though and still needs something to break it up. I didn't know with being a sliding door and then the patio door whether curtains or blinds would look right on them, I think like you have said I'll see how the area looks when it's a bit more filled with the sideboard and then I can always add curtains/ blinds if needed. i'm glad I've uploaded the other side of the kitchen as I now see it definitely clashes with styles but hadn't thought about it, It's only a small change but I bet it will help to work with the dining room. Comments (17)Liz, given the amount of natural light in that interior I would say Downpipe, but it wouldn't look like that in a darker interior. Little Greene Grey Teal 226 or Scree 227 look similar. Comments (29)Thank you 😊 I went for F&B skimming stone on three walls and Elephants breath on the long wall as I found ST was not warm enough to compliment the frame of the painting. 7 years agoHi Man About The House, Thanks so much for commenting! An integrated fridge would be awesome, but is dependent on how much extra it would add to the project. Unfortunately the size has to be, as my kids eat like horses and I need the space :))) . This is what I thought of to try and fit it in with the design...
