Need quick fix help for w/c, please!
I am wanting to fix this room up... I will be re-doing the whole room properly one day, but have other larger projects going on at the moment. What can I do to make this look better in the meantime? I have got rid of the horrible curtain! (and I DO NOT like those tiles!) Any ideas that will cost very little, but improve the poor little room?

9 years agoThis room is an ideal blank canvas! I would replace the tiles behind the sink with a more modern design...mosaic sheets would be so easy to use here as it's a tiny space to be covered. Check the Templo ones from Topps Tiles - I've attached a photo. I would then choose a nice dove grey colour for the walls to give the room depth but still keep it light and airy. Replace the mirror with something more decorative and add baby blue accessories as in towels etc.

Also, we had a slightly similar problem - we used to live in a 5-bed house but as we don't like cooking or entertaining in the kitchen, we only put a lovely, small separate kitchen (the size you'd find in a 2-bed flat). Comments (16)Unless you like to cook a lot of fry-up's I think a fairly powerful extractor fan should still be effective even when set back a bit. If you really want to position it over the hob you could have a contractor build in a robust boxed in false wall onto which you could have a normal 60 or 50cm wide extractor hood mounted. It would have to be anchored well to support the weight, the electrician would need to allow more power cable and a longer flue but it shouldn't be all that expensive or difficult to do. Comments (6)Mine were originally all cast iron, but the gutters had deteriorated so much that we had them replaced with plastic. Main downpipe is still the original cast iron one which is still in good nick, just needed painting. So basically I have a mixture and we painted all the various pipes black so it looks quite smart now. If your house is a beautiful period property then I would stick with cast iron, but they don’t come cheap. Comments (18)It's further than I thought. My concern was the stepped in wall and also the opening to the dining area but as it's further up than I thought the ".entrance" should be fine. You would however be left with an alcove between new and old fire. I wonder what shelves would look like there (I couldn't find an exact pic) or just box it in.. Tadelakt is similar to polished concrete, polished plaster, microcement etc, you could look at any of them just to add a bit of texture/warmth. You could always pay someone to do a CAD design in your room if this is your preferred option? Having said that if you frequently have large parties maybe it's not a great idea to have a fixed structure there? Maybe a tv and fire side by side is a better option?
