Why don't you try putting a large rug under the dining table first (if on a budget) to see if breaking up the floor a bit helps?

Thanks Jen! Good idea but really want to cover this horrible floor ! Cold, cracked and dirties easily especially the grouting and horrendous if you drop a glass. Goes everywhere !

I would not touch the colour of the island,Never,

The kitchen looks almost finished, it just needs NATURAL COLOUR/light oak colour flooring to finish it off, maybe a tone lighter from your kitchen worktops
