awkward space in bedroom- help needed
Comments (55)Hi, in that space I would put a nice relaxing framed print and beneath it a shaker style shelf with pegs to hang pretty scarves or hats or bags. I have one in my utility room between two cupboards and it gives a lovely feel to the room as well as being useful. Mirrors are not good feng shui opposite a bed and although shoe storage is great it might be too much between the wardrobes. Pretty colours!...See MoreLounge diner with awkward door position
Comments (2)Does anyone actually play the piano? If not move it out of the room. If yes can you move it to the "awkward space"behind the "awkward door", I hope it wont hinder access to the 2 light switches in that corner. Can the door near the armchair be made to open outwards instead of inwards into the living room? If yes then move the piano to that area instead repacing the armchair. Once piano is out of the way try and see if dining table can be rotate to fit in that space, if so you will have gained some space in the living area. Get rid of the fireplace and mirror and wall-mount the TV in that position. Will allow TV to be seen from seating position and minimise glare or backlight in case you open the windows in the dining area or in the sitting area. If you placed the piano in the armcahir's place you can keep the current sofa and its configuration. Move armchair to current TV console position. This will create a centre area for kids. It would appear to me your kids are quite young. You might consider investing in a thick heavy rug to place in the central place area. For side tables i would suggest nesed sidetables which you can keep in one area and remove and use as an when needed. (inserting an image later) If you moved the piano in the awkward space. I would suggest investing in a new slimer sofa or instead in a series of discrete seperate armscahirs whcih can be moved about easily. Oh and too maximise space i would have gotten rid of the table based lighting and preferred wall mounted ones. Similarly wall fixed shelves rather than tables, especially with babies to avoid the risk of things being pulled over. (one of the other reason i would suggest wall mounting the TV rather than getting another console)....See MoreConversion from 1 to 2-bed flat
Comments (7)Hi, It would be really useful to know which walls you can knock down and feel are awkward? In terms of utilising the space better are you open to considering moving the kitchen into the reception room to create an open plan kitchen living space? The reason I suggest is because adding a second bedroom will reduce the space of the bedroom as you will need to add a corridor. In addition what you have asked for in the bathroom will increase the footprint of the area. I would have suggested a bath tub/shower combined to save on space. As you want a separate bath and shower units this will take up more space, which can be done but you would have to extend the bathroom which is why I suggest moving the kitchen over to your reception room. It is really difficult to advise you in terms of costs as this is subjective to your building, structural considerations and the builder you use. I do believe you honestly need to get a professional architect involved who will carry out a survey and can advise exactly what can and can't be done in the space you have. Yes this will cost a bit of money, but you will get accurate answers than the Houzz forum! Knocking down walls and moving things around is a costly expense no matter how big the project. I always advise my clients to add 10% contingency fund just incase for those unexpected expenses :) Hope that helps Rukmini Patel Interior Design...See MoreIs it OK to step a bed away from the wall??
Comments (20)I thought you might be taking a punt on a “green” country! It will be great, bet you can’t wait, just need a change in weather! Well it sounds like a great place and location and very positive re the one down the road. Have you had a nose at it?! can your desk be used as a dressing table? If so, I’d add a mirror and maybe a drum stool. Maybe some velvet curtains, not sure if these are quite long enough? A jute rug for some texture, maybe just under one bed foot. I’d also dress the bed to make it more inviting. I have a few bouquets from Shida, they’re preserved so last for up to a year (although one of mine is older than that!), ideal for letting too, just need a blast from a hairdryer every now and again. What kind of budget do you have for the bedrooms and can look at lamps etc? One of my bug bears is not being able to dry your hair in front of a mirror (it’s amazing how many hotels etc do not consider doing makeup and hair properly!) and also lack of a full length mirror somewhere in the house. Make sure there’s easy access or extending leads for charging too!...See Morerachelmidlands
