One mirror or two?

Hi,

Currently improving my downstairs WC , it's still work in progress.

I will be moving the fan etc and running 4mm custom fit mirror glass from vanity tiles up to ceiling.

Question is, should I do similar on the RIGHT HAND wall and fill the full wall length and height?

Will be look good, or mirror-overkill in a WC ?

I would stick with one wall. It looks like a big space for a downstairs WC and doesn't really need the illusion of more space. You could hang pictures or framed photos on the other walls to add colour and interest.

Hi there,

Personally, I would place a mirror above the basin around 500mm then add a longer/bigger mirror on the side wall.

Our architect came up with some potential configurations. Any thoughts? I have no real sense of how cramped these would be. So grateful for your thoughts. I am ruining a nice big bathroom by making two smaller ones, or are these a comfortable size? Our other option is keep the larger bathroom and put a small toilet down stairs. Appreciate your thoughts.

One roof lantern or two?

Hi Lucy, I think that of those options, 2 roof lanterns would look better, but both options would bring in a great amount of natural light. I would want to create some centrelines from the windows and doors to define the centres of the lanterns. But then this looks like it probably wouldn't line up nicely over the island. You can have pendant lights installed hanging from the mullions of a timber or aluminium frame roof lantern, but if you are having UPVC or a contemporary frameless glass version then this would be more difficult! Your architect has handily included a north arrow on the drawings which show it as north facing. So these rooflights shouldn’t create excessive solar glare apart from possibly in the evening onto the kitchen area. I recommend that you get your architect/designer to provide you with a simple solar study to show accurate shadows at different times of the year at times that you regularly use the kitchen. My suggestion would be to create a strip of glazing at the join with the existing house. (similar to the image Bespoke Glazing Design sent above) This would bring the light deeper into the existing building, where the dining area is, and also allows you to place your lighting over the island and anywhere else more easily. Hi, I agree with Shjuly you don't need that much mirror so I would keep with what you have suggested on the back wall above the basins. On the other wall I would create some atmosphere and softness the space a little with some art work. Good luck.

My gut feeling was the single mirror also, I think I'll stick with that one.
