I too decided to save money and use my existing cupboards, but also wanted to create a more open look . I took all the wall cupboard doors off and painted them with FB emulsion 3 coats applied and they are still as good as new months later. I then peeled off all the Formica sheets on the door and painted then with Wilko kitchen door paint and changed the handles. Will splash out and buy new work tops . Point being research what paint is best for your doors and go for it.

Was going to suggest exactly what @Cherub Pebble said. Combining dining room and kitchen basically just turns one odd shaped room into a bigger odd shaped room and if you want to include a utility with garden access this would have to be where the current kitchen is (blocking the flow between the front and back of the open-plan), or at the back where the current patio doors are (which is probably your prime area in terms of light and views). If you have room dimensions that you could share, that would be helpful!

I would definitely keep the end window as this has the link to the rest of the garden, also it looks like a lovely bright room and it would be a shame to ruin that. To maximise this room, I would move the entrance to under the stairs to the dining room so that you can free up that whole long side. You can then put the cooker on this long wall with any tall units towards the dining room (darkest part of the room) and you've suddenly doubled your kitchen size and not had to do anything expensive - moving the understairs door will be a few hundred.
