Upstands or tiles

Hey,
So we have our kitchen nearly installed and having quartz folks pop round this week. However, we really really need some other opinions re up stands or tiles. I like both but can't have both, and want to create a chic feel. Would you file this kitchen or put an up stand?
I can't seem to find the tile tiles either and I think that would have helped to narrow down my options. Anyhows, should I wait for the dream tiles to match or upstand?

Comments (43)I thought I'd update everyone as to what we settled on as most of you won't have seen the finished post. Went went for Little Greene French Pale Grey on the walls and then a Grey Quartz worktop which had worked quite well. To stop it from being clinical, we opted for some textured wallpaper in the dining area which is Bala Storm (I think) from John Lewis. We then added some natural tones using a wooden table, and then Vitra chairs. Comments (14)Hi. Do you have a larger image of the worktop or name? I like the antique mirror or upstand suggestions. If you did want tiles, I like the cotes meadow tiles by walls of stone to add texture or others from the same range are nice ( look at John Torodes kitchen on DeVOL). I might just question how well they clean though :) I might just add tiles behind the hob and have upstands elsewhere. You could add a shelf to the chimney breast so as to accessorise. Comments (16)Thanks to bad renovation timing coinciding with the start of Covid lockdowns, we used DIY removable wallpaper above our upstand as a temporary “make do” measure because all work and shopping had to stop. Three years later (!) we are finally getting around to removing a chimney breast to completely finalise the kitchen, including replastering, and I am fairly certain I will be using the same wallpaper again. The only difference is it will be professionally hung! We have received so many compliments and it’s been shockingly robust, even behind the hob. - 9 years agoThanks everyone for your suggestions! We decided to upstand as it was so simple. We plan to accessorise it and make it warmer with woods, glass and gold.
