Hi, we are doing a loft extension and already have dormer windoes facing the back. Would we need planning permission to put dormer windows on the side as well?
There are rules governing side windows and types of glazing, so i'd contact the council first. You are also governed by how much room you can add by volume, and that depends on what type of house you have ie Terraced, Semi etc.
You can add up to 50 cubic square metres in volume, that will include the current dormer. The side window will need to be obscured glass and any opening over 1.7m above the floor level. Have a look on the planning portal, it explains a lot:- Planning portal
