Thank you everyone for your thoughts. There’s some real effort in the advice and I really appreciate it. I think I’m going to leave the sideboard as it is. Paint the wall, either grey or a deep blue, and add a lamp, plant/ terrarium - possibly a few bottles of gin (for show Ofcourse). If I remember, once I’ve done it - I’ll add a picture and share it. Hi Leigh - Depending on whether you think you'll ever want to open these windows, I would get a an ornamental glass insert (i.e. on a wooden frame) to fit into the opening, making them into features. There are stained glass options, or you could find something a little more modern that suits the rest of your décor. Good luck!

Decorating walls around TV + sideboard?

Years ago when I studied design one of the first things we were told to do was look at the whole room, where the natural light falls and use the space to make the most of this. This wall would look completely different depending on where the windows are so just to suggest painting it a dark colour may not be the best idea. What colour is the rest of the room? Also there is a radiator behind the sideboard, may be a problem when choosing paint, as this would have to be the same colour for a cohesive look. Is that a cat on the sideboard? I think you may have to look again at the room as a whole, if you are going to repaint the whole room stick with a feature colour to compliment the problem wall, don’t just waste your money guessing, buy some tester pots that match what you already have and you are happy with on the colour you have on the other walls. If you google 'gilding wax' you should find lots to choose from. The wax would give a gold ( or what ever wax you choose) sheen to the high points of the inlay. If you look at Annie Slone's website there will be tips on how to use it.
