If you google 'gilding wax' you should find lots to choose from. The wax would give a gold ( or what ever wax you choose) sheen to the high points of the inlay. If you look at Annie Slone's website there will be tips on how to use it.

The picture is a bit too high. They are best hung at eye level. You could add a couple more to fill the area better. Painting that wall a stronger shade to go with your kitchen may add a bit more drama. Plants are always good whether real or faux. This is mine, the printer has been moved!

Keep it very simple. A large piece of artwork or print over the sofa and a large simply framed Scandi style mirror over the sideboard. I would echo your neutral colours and stay away from anything ornate. An alternative might be to fix simple shelves above your sideboard to give you room to create and change small displays. I would use floating shelves in white or a pale wood to echo your floor. Choose a large piece of artwork hung in the landscape orientation on the wall closet to the sideboard.
