I'll start my response by saying we have been supplying and installing award-winning bifold doors and award-winning sliding doors right across the UK for 17 years, so we have plenty of experience - but also no bias towards either system. There are a multitude of factors to consider when choosing between bifolds and sliders - indeed we wrote an entire blog on the subject because it is a question we get asked time and time again. Based on discussions with customers, the key factors are: - Size of opening - the larger the opening the more likely it is that customers will choose sliding doors. - A view out - if you have a stunning view from your property then sliding doors (with their narrower profiles) are most likely to be the option. - Complete opening - if it is important that you create a complete opening then bifold doors are the option for you. With sliding doors (unless you opt for a pocket slider) you will always have a fixed panel. - Usability - how often you will have the doors open and how they open, these factors have an impact when choosing between systems In terms of price, thermal efficiency, glass options, weather proofing, track options, material choices and colours/finishes the systems can be pretty similar so these tend not to be key to making the decision. Any chance you have enough room outside the bath for a barn door? That would open up your floor plan greatly. I just got done installing pocket doors in my bath and office, huge space saver-but a lot of work. The barn door concept wont give you the air tight seal of a door but since ive put mine in, it is hardly ever used lol. If you can do either of those I would seriously consider moving the door closer to the tub and putting your vanity on the wall to the left. You will have a lot more storage, the layout will seem less hectic and if you are doing this for yourself (not planning on moving) you will enjoy it more. My initials used to be AD lol, now I am ADG

I think there are a few things that hinder the layout. The double doors from the lounge to the extension will make putting a sofa anywhere difficult, so i'd ditch those. They affect the furniture layout in the main lounge too, and are unnecessary. I think the span of doors and windows across the back are in the wrong place and too large. If you're having double doors in the hall, then directly opposite, should be another set for flow and light. It's crucial that you have enough wall space when going open plan, to put furniture. You need to consider furniture placement as essential when planning the area in the first instance, and a lot of people come a cropper when they do this. They design an area without any thought to where they're going to put sofas and T.V's then realise that there's not enough space or wall left to put them on. Where you put all of these directly affects placement of the dining table too. The Utility area is under utilised for space. Is there a provision for a downstairs toilet? A larger area can be used. You could go for a layout like this :- However, in my opinion, the kitchen is now too large for the space, and, the dining area is too small. So, I would change to this kind of layout, which gives you more equal proportions for everything. Plus, it looks nice and spacious. There is a properly assigned dining area with room for a sideboard and mirror over. The Utility / Coat room has access both from the Hallway and kitchen. The lounge area has plenty of room for a corner sofa and T.V area. All the windows and doors are central without compromising furniture placement. The only thing still missing is the downstairs loo, so hopefully there has been some provision for this elsewhere, or the Utility area will need amending further.

sheesh I thought with a rectangular shaped kitchen things would be simple! This is definitely a learning process! I think if if we Switched to the 600 mm cabinet instead of the 900 corner unit we’d have to have a 50 mm ’filler’ unit or something to allow the over door to open enough....hopefully I can get him to just hold off on putting more things in until it arrives so we could see how it works....I have such limited time outside of work and don’t have a job I can just swing an hour off from to go to showrooms and thints, so I just ordered the range cooker online after reading reviews. They all seem to come in either 90, 100 or 110 cm, so I just went with the smallest ‘standard’ one. when we first reserved the house I asked if I could modify the kitchen a bit, specifically put a range cooker in. He said no problem (it’s a small local developer, not one of the big companies) and that I could work out all the plans with their kitchen planner....I spent about 2 hours with her and went through a lot more emailing her back and forth to get it right...some good that’s done! im thinking the range cooker along the wall won’t work either unless I lose the peninsula thing altogether because there’s not enough room- which would sacrifice a load of counterspace....unfortunately we need the door to the living room otherwise there’s no way between the kitchen and living room without going outside!
