Large glass table?

Does anyone know where we can find an extra large glass topped dining table that could seat 10? Advice on dining chairs also appreciated! We have oak floorboards and aiming for a contemporary look

Hi Rosemary,

The issue you will find with glass tables is that there is a huge selection of 6 to 8 seaters at a variety of priced but when you move up to 10 place settings the selection reduces and the prices tend to go through the roof.

A trick I often use is to but two moderately priced glass tables in the style I like then remove the glass tops (I sometimes recycle them as large coffee tables)

Once you have your two bases you set them in the room and cut a piece of MDF or plywood to the maximum size you feel the room could take. Check the bases are stable with this size top then if all is OK send the top to a local glass merchant to cut this in thick glass. A piece of glass big enough to seat ten will have to be between 12 and 20mm laminated glass. (The glass company will advise you) This will be very heavy !!!!......and will cost a fair amount but you end up with a stunning table, the correct size for the room and usually a fraction the cost of a ten seater designer table..

Here is an example of a base I used recently.

I bought three of these and had one large piece of thick glass to go on top.

The three glass tops left over were used in the lounge and family room as coffee tables (I had some simple MDF boxes made to support them clad in mirror.)

The table cost £199.00 x 3 + £1200.00 for the new glass top..

Thank you! Very clever. Hmm. I have no idea - ha ha! What are the white lights. I'm slightly concerned that the whites won't match. There are so many whites. The coppers might not match either. Could just do 5 mediums at different heights or 3 mediums and a few small - all in the striped. Not sure. They would be in a straight line as that's how the track is. What do you think might look best? My table would be going across the room and is bigger than that table so lights wouldn't be as close to the table. Do you think all stripes would be too much? Thanks for doing those ideas - really appreciate it.

Hi Kelly, I see that you have not had a reply to your question. So I would like to help, New bi-fold doors and sliding doors have an excellent thermal value. Doors can be made of multiple materials but the best in look, durability is alimininum, with aluminium and double glazed glass zed glass units you will be more than comfortable in the summer and the winter. If you are concerned about the heat coming into the room, for example, if you are south facing, we have a product called thermal glass. We use thermal glass on our roof lights; it is a treated glass that has a tint and reflects heat, the double glazed units stop heat from escaping. I have attached a few pictures of our skylight showing the thermal glass and an example of large skylights and large bifolds, honestly you will not be worried at all with large amounts glass these thermal values. The Pooky website had loads of lovely lights. Wow! I also received some suggestions on another thread. I trawled through lots of websites today! I combined some ideas into a collage. Any thoughts? The dark pewter pendant is what I'm trying to co-ordinate with (I love the matt grey finish and its shape), whilst not losing the light airy feeling of the new living area with it's pitched roof, and large windows/doors. Hence why I thought about a glass pendant. But using glass pendants was just an idea. I'm open to other ideas. I also wondered if I should look at some "Hamptons style lights"? I like a timeless, calm, look.
