The best way to make a room feel more spacious is to minimise clutter. If you can replace the bath with a shower then definitely go for the option in Elena's message and install a large shower spanning the width of the room. If you have to keep the bath then perhaps consider a smaller bath (e.g. 1600mm long) if this won't be a problem for you. It may seem strange to make a room smaller when trying to make it appear larger but I would suggest building out a false studwork wall on the right hand side of the room by about 200mm and using the void behind to conceal the pipework for the shower so you only have the valve and shower head visible. You can also put in neat alcove shelves within the shower to store bottles and products so you don't need the basket which will create more space in the shower area and make it seem more spacious. I would also move the toilet next to the shower and conceal the cistern behind the false wall. Again, you can have alcove shelves above the toilet with concealed lighting or set back the whole section above the cistern with a large mirror above. By hiding the shower mechanisms and the cistern, the whole area looks clean and uncluttered giving the illusion of more space. The basin can be repositioned opposite the door, which will be a more attractive view than the loo when you walk into the room. Finally, if your door opens inwards rehang it to open outwards to make the room feel more spacious. I hope that helps and all makes sense! Regarding the plants choice I think the best is asking the clients specifically what type of garden they want first: low maintenance, high beds for easy access, paved for wheel chairs access, and so on. The key is keeping the garden look interesting all year around by choosing plants and feature Plants that flower or change leafs colours in different seasons is a good start. Hi there So here is my two cents...please take it with a pinch of salt Not knowing the budget. Remove the dado rail it draws the eye to it and from what i can tell you have nice ceiling height. Introduce LED recessed spot lights in warm white not too many. Its hard to tell if you have a cornice if not I would put another set of cupboards on top of the ones you have with an up stand and run a plaster cornice around the room and the wardrobes this would give you more storage accentuate the height and make the wardrobes feel fitted. Take down the curtains and replace with shutters that black out. Change radiator to a flat panel and paint it in with the wall colour. Keep the chair in the corner but re upholster. New carpet. Over sized head board with a deep button could look great with a divan bed. See picture. Colour scheme I like Paper and paint look at lead 1 for the walls, and skirting and wood work, for the ceiling a broken white 1/2 white 1/2 lead 1. For the wardrobes lead 2 and reeded handles in nickel, classic looking change all window fitting to nickel and door handles. Keep fire place looks great. You need a mirror above the Fire place, some really nice bedside tables A great bedside table wide if you can, perhaps painted to match the wardrobes. As well I think a classic modern Glass Side Lights from Vaughan lighting or similar in budget with a dark shade. and finally run the TV cabling to the end of the bed before you put in the new carpet and make a custom ottoman with a TV that pops up at the end, that should finish it off. I guess we would all like a good architect to design projects for us as the results can be stunning. The problem often lies with the budget which seem to be ever tighter. Architect costs 10% ish and often designs and specifies in a way that pushes the cost up. We price some architects projects, to then be told that the client has given them a budget much lower than the prices. Then things are cut back to suit the budget which is a shame. I guess if you go with an architect be very clear what your top budget is and be honest and stress the fact. we are finding more and more that people know what they want and need someone to execute it well. We generally start with taking people's wish lists, looking at their building and giving them an idea of budget and options . They can then make an informed decision on which way to go.
