I think with some furniture and accessories it will look lovely. I think either just have the upstands as Daisy suggested, or have a brown/textured splash back in a similar shade to the work top. I'd then add a few splashes of colour. The greens and mustard yellow work well imo. I'd add lots of wood too. Enjoy your new home!

I would echo the earlier suggestions and suggest adding a wood effect vinyl/laminate.

I really don't like it either, and I'd rather replace something than live with a look I hated. I don't think there's anything else going to work with those colours.

I'd replace the worksurface. That's the cheapest item to replace and also I think the thing causing the most problems. I would go for solid birch if I could afford it, it's a surprisingly cheap wood and also very pretty. I've put Hard Wax Oil on mine.

Then I'd find tiles which were a range of different off-whites, ideally mostly between the colour of the units and the white of the floor tiles.

If you think about the cost of purchasing and fitting tiles to go with a kitchen you don't like - it is annoying. I would ask yourself what you can live with, for example can you live permanently with the units? For me, the brown worktop is not working with the cream units, I would ask that they rip out the worktop and upstands, it is a really simple job. Replace with something more sympathetic. Also, get rid of the cream glass behind the cooker. There are companies that can quickly change the worktops, I would do this first and then think about what tiles to make it all work. If you do keep the worktops, I like Jen P's tiling suggestions. You may have to change the wall colour though because the white isn't working with the cream.

Or, just live with it, don't spent anything on it and replace when you can afford to. It won't cost the earth as everything would go in the same place.

Thanks everyone for the great advice! I think we will go ahead and change the work top as i agree its defiantly the main issue here. I love how the teal blue works with the cream cupboards, then a nice oak effect work top maybe?

To be honest I would just take the doors off and get them sent to be professionally re-sprayed a colour you do like. Shouldn't cost too much and means you have a much easier time decorating to your taste. Though I do like what celerygirl above posted with the blue tile and darker blue wall colour.
