It would be great to get some way to light the brick wall to make it really pop! Given the red hues in the brick, you might want to consider a wood such as cherry for the worktop in the island - it has a wonderful reddish hue and is perhaps the most gorgeous, tactile, lustrous of woods! I would certainly consider adding some real feature tiles for more texture - see below if you are brave to really continue the gloss black theme! A few other things to consider - of all the "colours", matte black will absorb the most light (gloss would reflect some), so walls I would keep white or just off, and I would think carefully about good lighting. Another option worth considering would be a dark grey (anthracite) gloss or matte, possibly handleless - they can be every bit as stunning as black, and can be easier to live with longer term. Fully appreciate your wish not to cover that wonderful brick. You could, however, use a few shelves - simple or like those below - to add storage but still keep the brick! Wrt colours - the brick is going to narrow your choice somewhat, but I'd still be a little bold, given the black/white/greys. Olive works well (if a bit safe) - I might be brave and add some restrained splashes of a dusky purple. It can work!...See MoreColours
Comments (2)Great project and looks like it's coming along well! Are you keeping the brick exposed? I think it could look fantastic - I'm already seeing a big clock on the wall there! I think as you've got light on your side, some brick, some navy blue accents and white would look fantastic. If you have various kitchen appliances and wares, you can always use these as the colour pop. Good luck!...See MoreSkylight or Light tube
Comments (6)Helen, Sun tunnels are a great way of getting natural light into a building where a Velux window is not an option. However I would suggest using a Velux window if there is sufficient space. It should be possible to splay the 'cheeks' to the Velux window opening to maximise the light coming in. It will be rather fiddly, which is perhaps why the builder has offered up the sun tunnel as an alternative. Regards, Simon...See MorePaint colour decision help!
Comments (8)Thanks for all your help! I decided to test the paints on a white wall in the house (we’re getting the room done soon anyway). They come up much clearer when they’re not competing with the purple paint in the bedroom. I love the Parma grey colour but I think the borrowed light paint goes better with the rest of the decor and soft furnishings. I might have to use the Parma grey on a piece of furniture though as it is a lovely colour....See More- 7 years ago
