Hello Lyn, I have to say that I would assume drawers are for kitchen tools like spoons, tin openers and utensils.. and cutlery.. Cupboards would store the larger items.. Bowls, plates, pots and pans.. I have wooden shelves for my crockery and I store my cutlery in an old ceramic jug which also sits on the shelves.... I would have a cupboard with a shelf in to create a drawer, rather than have a pull out drawer, then the cupboard has two functions.. . It's just what aesthetic you prefer really or what has been provided in the kitchen, ie more drawers than cupboards..... You can even have large larder type cupboards.. for food or the pots and pans.. There is a universal triangle placement of fridge, oven and sink, when designing the kitchen, but really other than that... People have their own ways.. also it boils down to (No pun intended!) how much you really use the kitchen and how functional it really needs to be.... :))

Kerry I hope your break is lovely, kitchen design is one of the most stressful things and like you I tried to do it alone with the help of the so called kitchen designers and none offered clever ideas to bring out the best of our space. Frustrated I ended up listening to some of the advice on here and enlisted the help of Karen at OnePlan. She ended up giving us the space of our dreams with everything I wanted and suggested some fantastic solutions that we would have never had thought of. The advantage is that Karen gives you a set of comprehensive plans and a shopping list so all you have to do is email them to as many kitchen companies there are and ask for quotes. We had a huge differences for a handmade design from 33k to a more reasonable albeit built in pine 7.5k. I cannot tell you what a difference it will make to you working with a professional that is not looking to sell you cabinets but looks at your available space and listens to your needs. And you will more than save the money it costs you to employ them. Thank you all, it's really useful to hear your opinions. The sink could move over one space but not really all the way as there'll be a large corner unit up in that corner housing the boiler. We were thinking induction but currently love cooking on gas so can easily swayed there. Alfred - We were planning on going for an oven and small oven/grill for the tower. I love the idea of a boiling water tap but with two small and fearless toddlers I'd be a bit nervous! We do like cooking and tend to spread a fair bit so I am concerned about counter space. The breakfast bar isn't actually that necessary so I wonder whether the whole design would work better without it, leaving a longer stretch of worktop along the sink side?

If you take the 290 unit off the back run and island, I think that would be sufficient? As you've got kids I think a banquette seat would be ideal for family games, homework, crafts etc. Banquettes are around 60cm, table 90cm so that leaves 113cm which I think is more than sufficient both visually and practically as it's the same gap I have behind my kitchen table. Choose chairs that push under and consider the table legs carefully depending on the number of chairs wanted, pedestal tables often work. I would however take the sink off the island and maybe install a prep sink instead so the back run would be DW, sink, bin, induction hob (I'd integrate the oven personally). Is the shower room a must? It seems quite a trek to reach there with the number of doors unless there was a way to extend the 2nd front door forward and create access from the hall there. Also wondering if you'd considered removing the wall between snug and the old kitchen? It may make the area more useable rather than trying to fill the old kitchen
