How can I make my kitchen design/layout more practical?
Comments (13)The design layout could do with changing if this is a two chef kitchen - as currently hob and sink share same floor standing space, the DW when open blocks the walkway - oven is danger to anyone opening door... The FF is not what you want - the list goes on !!! Difficult to help further with no sizes - I could guess from the doors - but no head on shot of the right wall so a bit tricky - this could be a 'very quick' job as a sketch consult on an hourly rate, if you want pro help - drop me an email ! If you were thinking of using ikea for example - you could buy and have installed the carcase's, drawers, worktop, sink and appliances and then add the facia fronts as and when you have spare cash - this would stretch your money a little further ... £4k is still a lot of money - invest it wisely !...See MoreI need some more ideas for extension layout
Comments (32)If you're still keen on a flexible-function room (i.e. where the middle internal space works as a guest bedroom or family space for example playroom, snug TV room, office, hobby room), my suggestion would be to use pocket internal doors; and/or glazed internal french doors. Then most of the time the doors can be open and part of the open-plan. Then when using the the space as a guest bedroom, the doors could have roller blinds or curtains, to separate the space and add privacy. Consider which way you want the "flexi room" to open up. Rather than open up to the side of the house (near proposed cloakroom); I think it would be nicer if the room opens into the back room or the front room (likely to be much nicer views and better light)....See MoreDouble oven/Two Single Ovens/Combi Microwave & Oven
Comments (52)#Mrs Lanks - having altered our original kitchen when we moved in 13 years ago we are now freshening up paintwork, replacing worktops and installing new appliances as the layout we chose then still works for us. We presently have a Rangemaster but they have changed the style so are considering two single ovens either side by side or on top of each other. If the latter, does the top oven need to be supported rather than just placed on top of the bottom one.....? Also, which brand did you end up buying as we are researching Neff and Bosch which both seem to have a problem cleaning the doors as you apparently need to take the glass door out....!?...See Moreneed help with kitchen layout - kitchen units deeper than window edge
Comments (13)I think that you need to leave a wider gap, 30cm is not wide and I think it will look like what it is, ie stopping the units so they don't get in the way of the french doors. I would go with a 60-80cm gap and make a useful feature out of it with floor to ceiling shelving. I've found a picture showing some shelving stepped back from regular depth units, so you get an idea. Another option is to use a rounded base unit if you like them and maybe put a stool or plant in the gap....See MoreHannah
