Need help for marble color.
Comments (5)Sorry it took so long for me to respond. I was looking at marble the other day at a local granite company and saw a beautiful limestone and they told me it was oyster limestone. I mentioned how it would be beautiful in a master bath. The gentleman told me it was very porous so I thought it would be a nightmare to keep clean and stain free. I could probably do ok as a countertop but would need to be very careful with makeup.. No matter how careful I am, I seem to drop my blush, eye shadow and mascara on occasion. If you are a clean freak you may be able to manage the upkeep but you have been forewarned. I would ask a tile pro for their opinion. Comments (3)Hi there, From experience the closest to Quartz composites which look like Carrara Marble are Quartzforms Veined Michelangelo, or Unistone Bianco Carrara. We don't deal with Caeserstone too much here anymore (no reason, just so many options available we tend to pick our favourties!) but from a look through our samples Caeserstone London Grey has the look of the marble, although a little more grey overall. We would also advise strongly against putting marble in a kitchen, it is too porous and for such a large amount of money it can be damaged so easily. Generally the Quartz manufacturers are very good at imitating other stones, it won't look like a fake marble, just one that can take a bit more heavy use than marble can! Comments (6)Book matching is something that good fabricators do. It sounds like you need a good fabricator. Although - as I understand it only certain quartz with a high price tag can be book matched. And you have to do what you are suggesting where you use more than one slab and the wastage adds to the cost. Comments (7)Thanks for everyone's comments. This is really helpful and so nice to get such constructive and thoughtful comments. This is our first major project and builders got us to first fix and my husband is doing the rest of the work himself (kitchen, bathroom installation, tiling). This forum is exactly what it's all about - design advice and solution solving from those that have been there and done it. You're right Victoria - in an ideal world we could have had a higher windowsill (we're not keen on the counter top running into the window sill) but so hard to get every measurement spot on when you're planning a kitchen when the extension is just a shell. PRO8 years agoHello Melissa. We get asked this all the time! Each piece of marble is so unique, with beautiful veining, which simply cannot be copied when it comes to a composite. However, Silestone 'Lagoon' & Caesarstone 'London Grey' tend to be P&P clients favourites. Another design trick to get some of real marble into your kitchen is to use a Simple white or grey composite with a lovely real marble splash back... I would only recommend this behind a sink though. We used ceramic instead of marble not only for cost purposes but also to make this beautiful feature splash back.
