Finally finished the hall and the transformation is complete. Kept the doors but painted the architrave and all other woodwork (Farrow & Ball Dimity Eggshell). Walls (F & B Joa's White Modern Emulsion) Carpet is sisal. Window shutters California Shutter Co. Wall up/down-lighters John Lewis, as are the ceramic radiator shelf lights, painted to match wall. LED Panel 'skylights' are magical. Wired to an external Dusk 2 Dawn sensor via a relay (To transpose output to Dawn 2 Dusk) they are activated by two occupancy sensors either end of the hallway and only operate during daylight hours, thus giving the very real effect that it's daylight flooding in. The wall lights are for night time and if it only needs to be subdued lighting, then the remote controlled shelf lights are used. The flickering flame wall sconces either side of the old loft door are for amusement at best, but look nice. Now to find some suitable wall decoration and also fit a curtain and tie-back at the mid-point. That will allow guests who use the end bedrooms some night time privacy when using the bathroom down there. Thanks to all you Houzzers for your input and support!

Could someone help me to choose lights for my flat? I know what I want but I do not know where to find them. I want the lights to be trimless, downlights, recessed, round, 2700 (soft colour), not very visible standing out on the ceiling and I do not like the halogen that have lines, or the LEDs which have many spots like a bee house. What do you suggest?

Hi Charlie, The Orluna LEDs vary in cost depending upon the style and the dimming method used. The Curve fitting starts with a retail price of £55.14 +VAT with a non-dimming driver. The fitting with a mains dimming driver retails for£65.14+VAT. Depending upon the lighting layout, you will normally need less Orluna fittings than other brands as the beam angles go up to 60 degrees so there is a greater spread of light around the room. Advances in technology have brought many variations, however sometimes too much choice can cause problems! Halogen, low energy lighting or LED? Which colour will work best? Sometimes the type of light may be determined by your desire for dimming facilities. Then there is the decision as to where the lighting should be placed. Generally, in a kitchen there are five different lighting positions: 1. Ceiling lighting - to provide general overall light, illuminating your whole room. 2. Plinth lighting - usually LED spots or strips to create a runway affect, an atmospheric light at very low level. 3. Display lighting - found in glass-fronted cabinets and in over-mantle shelving to provide targeted light to illuminate a particular object or space. 4. Under wall unit lighting - designed to light up your working area. 5. Over wall unit lighting - either facing downwards to illuminate the area or facing upwards to illuminate the ceiling.
