Victorian Renovation in London Part 3 - Finish line?

Hi all, someone suggested starting this yet again, as we got to 200 comments and the thread was crashing. See link below for the original threads.
We are supposedly a week from finishing the interior...which seems a bit ambitious. The kitchen is not even installed yet!

Comments (10)Most things are possible depending on budget though. First things first :- What are you trying to achieve? Do you want access to a loft room, is it to have a dormer window? If not, then you are restricted to accessing from either gable. Thus the only other gable is the Chimney stack side. How wide is the landing upstairs? I'd have to presume that the Chimney stack would have to go. If you were having a dormer or there is one already in the loft it makes life a little easier. There are options but they all depend on what you want to achieve and budget. For instance:- You could consider changing the conservatory in to a proper room, building up to create more floor space on the 1st floor and amending the stairs. You could go right up to roof height and create more room not only on the 1st floor but the 2nd floor too. If you are not intending on having a dormer in the loft, then moving the stairs to the only option on the left hand gable would involve taking down the Chimney stack, and, would be dependant on the width of the landing and whether or not you can fit a staircase in lengthwise along that wall. You can't fit in a dog leg as it would compromise either the access to the bathroom or the bedroom depending on which way the stairs run....See MoreRug ideas please!

Comments (21)Thank you verdigrisjane. I understand your reservations but also it is brave to take the plunge. Especially if no one else on your street has it. We have decided with white as it needs to visually be in context with the other houses. If we has a larger facade or we not part of a building I would have opted for the braver charcoal choice. - 8 years agoIt's in its third year of treatment under a proper plan, so I'm not too worried. No sign of it returning when we bought the house - and we checked thoroughly as did the mortgage surveyor!
Took a couple of pics from the bottom of the garden. Will be great when the weatherproofing is finished and I can take the tarpaulin off the glass doors to the study, just below the glass wall on the master bathroom. Relax folk - we are secluded, so taking a shower is not an exercise in exhibitionism!

- 8 years agoHi RV - just a small update. We decided to paint the wood doors, as unpainted ones look a bit weird against a wood floor. A before pic and some afters...we went with dark green to complement the kitchen, as well as the wallpaper design. Didn't fancy more grey wood!

The glass in the study has been put above the doors and the tarp is finally off! Still a mess but the big stuff is done...

- 8 years agoMrs Resh's study was painted today. It's a new room, in the bottom of what was the former lift shaft. Long and narrow - 3.5m x 2m. The idea was that she could work whilst looking out at the garden; with the glass doors open in the summer. By the end of May there should be a patio outside that she can step out onto - but with a baby rather than a laptop given that Jr is due in August. Hopefully this room will serve as well for relaxation as for work...right now it needs quite a lot of finishing...
