I absolutely love the look of shelves in a kitchen - they help to create a really light and simple feel to the space, and create a stage for all your favourite things. However, they do provide less storage. So if you dont have the luxury of plenty of storage, I would suggest going for wall cabinets instead, or having a mixture of the two. There is something to be said for keeping the walls open too - it can be tempting to fill every possible space, but don't be afraid of leaving space for your cabinets to breath. This might mean having a clear out, but it will make your room feel much more open. Charlie

A little bit of advice for your blind - Fauxwood is a perfect material for a bathroom as it's easy to wipe clean and won't warp in steamy conditions. I think the answer is, it depends... On what sort of cooking you do; how much pain you feel if you see a grease spot; what sort of things you want to put on the shelf and whether you will replace them often. Of course, you could just put glass doors, although the effect won't be the same. I applaud your choice of matt cabinet finish - super shiny finishes are such a pain to keep looking good.

So he might need a combination lego building and studying desk? Good idea not to put the radiator under the window. You could always have a horizontal low level one on the opposite wall to the bed as it would be concealed by the deak. Storage will depend on your budget. There are many freestanding affordable wardrobes available. I would be tempted to look at something like Ikea's Pax system if you are handy and would prefer not to invest in built in storage. You may also want a clear space with a nice rug for him to play in the center of his bedroom. I am assuming he will have a single bed which will free up more space. A small bookshelf would also be handy. Do personalise it with posters or bedlinen in his favourite colour or depicting his favourite action hero. Have some fun with it and allow him to choose some items like desklamp, beanbag or rug.
