urgent help with interior design please!

Hi! Pls help, I know what I like when I see it but I have real trouble getting there-we've bought these curtains in a sale and only have today to make up our mind if we want to return them or buy the right sizes... do they look right? It looks light but not sure it looks cosy?? Can I accessorize with bolder colours in rugs/cushions/coffee table? Any suggestions massively welcome, I have no vision! We used to have curtains with a bit more red in so seemed cosier but we feel a lot 'calmer' without red in the room! Think it clashed with the fireplace...need to break up the brown/beige look of the room!! Sofa and carpet colour were a disaster and not planned but can't change those now so have to work around them. Pls help-desperate!

It's hard to tell colours from the photo- it looks like they have a similar red to the rug and similar beige to the carpet? I think the colours work well with the room. I do however think pleat curtains would compliment the room style much better (could you exchange them?)

I would personally go for solid neutral curtains, if you want a calmer feel. You can add colour and pattern with accessories. I would pick colours for accessories from the painting above the piano, which seems to have the same colours as the rug? That way it will all tie in beautifully and not feel too busy. Couldn't find a photo that represents what I just said very well.

I don't mind the eyelet style, works well for a more relaxed look.

It's already tight, it would look silly moving the toilet and basin toward the shower and putting the bath central. Even if you could squeeze it in the lip of the bath looks like it would almost be touching the basin edge creating a corner of the room you can't reach. I don't think you need to worry about putting it central even if you did it wouldn't line up with the window so something has to be off. I've literally just had my bathroom done and my bath is in the corner like yours on the same wall as the toilet. It's off centre from the wall and the window but looks fine. All you need to do is fill the corner, I like the plant idea but you could also use some sort of storage unit One other thing is that you could perhaps move the freestanding? taps to the corner edge of the bath. I did this and think it looks good. That way nothing is central but your taps might not be high enough

Hi guys, I am back again with a bathroom query, I have an image attached. I really don't like the current layout for this bathroom and I'm thinking if we move the toilet to the wall on the left under the sink and put the bathroom vanity where the toilet currently is so that this is the first thing the person sees when the door is open. Do you think this works? Again advice is hugely appreciated. I honestly had no idea finalising bathrooms would be so difficult, and the support I have received on Houzz has been the best of any professional I have met so far so thank you all! Forgot to say that I'd try to find one larger/longer piece of furniture for under the TV.

Preferably something that spans (almost) the entire width. Maybe even a dining bench that you could put the baskets with logs under and some nice things displayed on the top.

Here's a photo that I feel shows how it works if you let colours return in accessories in various places, with a neutral base.

It's hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the colours in the curtains work well in the room and tie in with your rug and fireplace nicely. The rug pattern is already busy so I would pick a solid colour for the curtains either from the rug itself or the from wall hanging above the piano.

Ooh and if you have to keep the curtains anyway,try and hang 1 pair on each window(2 curtains) so as when you draw the curtains side to side the room will have an elegant look.

I agree that you need two curtains at each window and notice that light shines through. Linings can be attached which would more substance to them. They are quite reasonably priced from Dunelm.

Thank you so much everyone for your help! Such great advice and trying my best to follow it all...I think the main problem is im not happy with the furniture or the carpet, or the fireplace bricks I feel it's stuck in the 70s and not a cosy up to date sitting room...I just can't relax in there! And I keep trying to fix one thing at a time making it worse! We decided not to keep curtains (we would have had two on each, we were just testing them but you're right, that put me off too just seeing it like that!) as yes, rug too busy...I only bought that to infuse some colour in such a bland room! I will try and use the colours in that or in pic above piano (which is the only thing I love in there!) and love the idea of bench style thing under tv thank you-we're on the case!
Think I need to apply to 60 minute makeover and be done with trying to fix it myself

I think the brick fireplace give the room a lovely warm, cosy feel. If you feel the room lacks colour or cosiness why not try painting the walls a deeper colour? Good luck

I don't mind the fireplace and think you have a lovely neutral base with the carpet and furniture. I also like the rug, but think you need a coffee table. And maybe paint the niches a darker colour? So the TV doesn't stand out so much?

I've done a mockup, to give you a visual. Hope it helps. I've removed a lot of the small items, which did make it feel a bit cluttered to me. Ikat pattern cushions work well I think. they give a bit of an eclectic feel. These are from John Lewis. The plain ones are Westelm. Lamp from Ikea. Pouffe from Next.

Wow. Aeolian thank you so much for going to all that effort! Wish I could do that to see what things look like! And I'm so pleased you said that as last night we brought our coffee table back down and felt much better already, and weirdly talked this morning about painting the recesses! We have done dark teal in other room so had thought maybe...and the rest is great being able to see, like the plant by the door too! Thanks for all info-so kind :-)

Grandma style living room. Return this plaid curtains please. Go with solid colour. Clean space below TV. Carolina gave you some nice mocking-up. Too many small items/nick-nacks in room, on the piano.
