Do these light fixtures go?
Advice on dining light fixtures...
We are trying to accomplish a somewhat modern farmhouse theme. I like my light fixtures over my island but am unsure of the dining fixtures. I’ve thought about painting them black actually but maybe Im way off track with the actual style of them in the first place. Any suggestions on dining lights that would coordinate better with my current island pendants?

Otherwise she wakes up in the middle of the night from the chair in the living room and wails.. if not the wailing... Comments (10)In the family sitting room, we have a 5 arm pendant light on a dimmer switch, with 3 matching 2-arm wall lights. One further single wall light. We have one desk lamp, and lighting above the glass shelves of the alcove and in the inglenook fire place. The OH also has a floor standing, adjustable angle light for reading. In the other sitting room we have, 4 down lights, a centre ceiling light with 5 arms, 4 table lamps in the corners, 2 wall lights and lights in shelving alcove and in the wall of bookcases. Comments (5)Hi Angel This a a common questions and it always comes down to what minor things you can sacrifice to get the best of all worlds. Do I have a pendant to create a dining zone? Do I try and retain the view outside? Do I make the space versatile for parties? In my opinion a light over the table looks great if you do not have one already over the kitchen island (if you have one). Keep the light above head level (of most of your usual guests) so that you can talk to each other . It may be worth cutting out cardboard and offering it above the table to see what works for you. The light doesnt have to be too imposing it could be something light the light below. or maybe something that is a feature but still see through like the below There are not many rise and fall lights out there that can really reduce that much to be out of the way on a standard height ceiling but if you have tall ceilings then it could work. PRO8 years agoI agree about the too many pairs of light fixtures. There are tons of options for your dining table. You can do something similar in style to your pendants or two fixtures to create the look of one dramatic centerpiece.

Depending on your ceiling height I would do something like these...the round with glass globes needs higher ceiling so need to check length on it...simple farmhouse style is best...the first image on the left is perfect..42” in linear length..would be really nice. Can post info on them if you want just let me know.

Many chair spindles, and for variety some, I'd beef up the dining chandelier: not lantern quite, and not too many arms... simple drum a bit elegant shade, but only 26" wide.

- 8 years agoThank you all so much for your advice!! I had originally wanted this dining light from Restoration Hardware to go with my island pendants but it wasn’t available in August when we were buying our fixtures. Sold out?
Anyways, I see they are available again and I’d buy one in a heartbeat but my only hesitation is the fact that I now have the wiring and two holes in my ceiling...do you think it would be possible to utilize one of those holes& wires for this rectangular cage without having to rewire through the beam? In my mind it seams as though it would look better to have the beam in between the two chains vs the light hanging from the beam right? And if so there should be a way I can make that work wouldn’t you think? I realize I wouldn’t be able to use the rectangular ceiling trim/fastener that the light comes with. That way I can cover the holes from the existing chandeliers. I do love the rectangular “horse trough” light but we are trying to stay away from any lighting that will block the view through the French doors. I would like to keep an open airy feeling...like you look right through the dining room windows out to our pasture & hills. I would prefer to replace the chairs with something low & slip covered and keep an airy light fixture vs keeping the “airy” chairs and use a bulkier light. Hope that makes sense? I’ve also attached a photo of what you see when you walk in the front door of our house. Maybe that helps give a better picture of the current feel of our home.
- 8 years agoI also have this light fixture in my living room (ignore the fireplace, it’s not finished). It resembles a light fixture that was recommended above. Wondering if I should move this to the dining room instead?
PRO8 years agoI agree that you have too many pairs, I would recommend a large long chandelier over the dining table.
