Hi Kusten, the tiles in my photo are for floors and walls, I think they would work best on the floor in your hallway. If you decided to use them you could paint the walls in a neutral shade to match. Hi it's a great space and I agree the windows are beautiful, no wonder you fell in love with this house. Often a new house takes a little time to get a new identity. If you've had a different style of home before it's hard to stop buying things that suit the old home, well at least I did when I move from a small house to a larger house. I kept buying small things which looked a bit lost in a bigger space. You have a lovely high ceiling that will make the space feel airy and large but the lights are a wee bit too high. I'm going to tentatively say it, the drum pendant is perhaps the wrong light for such a large space and looks a bit out of place. The one over the table is a great light fitting and is exactly right look, we sell this light and it's a lovely fitting but could maybe be a touch closer to the table but the look is great and it adds a little something to the space. If I could suggest one thing, I'd move the drum shade to another room perhaps a bedroom, when funds permit, invest in a light with a bit more presence. The one you have is nice and there's nothing wrong with it. I'm not being critical of the choice but with such a great high ceiling and lovely features it may be worth considering going large. As a rule of thumb don't hang your light lower than 7ft.from the floor When I look at how much empty space you have above the door you've possibly got 5ft, of void. Fill the void with a statement light. Having high ceilings can cause some people a little head scratching as lots of off the shelf lights are about a meter high which sounds a lot till you put is in a large space with high ceilings. Take a look at our sister company Bespoke Lights there's lots of lights you can have made with a longer drop. Which often works out cheaper and less of a faff than getting an electrician to extend it. sometimes they need rewire a light fitting and that becomes very expensive and a little problematic. The above light has a warmth that may work really well with your neutral and earthy toned room, but there are lots of different styles if this isn't for you. Hi Katherine, It sounds like a great space that can offer a real impact and still be a very cosy and relaxing space. It can be daunting to have such a large space to deal with at first, especially when there are features you don't want to touch. There are lots of different options for the space. I like the idea of opening up the fireplace as it would make a great feature for the room and a place to add a possible seating area for reading but I do agree that if down stairs is electric it is probably closed off. It is a bit of work and a messy job to get it changed. You shouldn't need to worry about planning but will obviously need to abide by building regulations. I think a lot of people place only a large bed and a select few piece of furniture in there types of rooms to draw attention and emphasis the gorgeous period features but there of course things we can do to add additional wardrobes in unobtrusive ways. I would agree to not adding a en-suit as it will unbalance the space. However, it is very hard to tell without any pictures? Would you be able to upload any? Personally, I prefer the living room, as it is the heart of the home. Cool lamps and chandeliers in bathrooms are a nice and unexpected statement too.
