I would go for beige and one wall a darker beige or caramel colour. Would also try to reconfigure the layout. Would something like this work? Don't know if I've got the position of the door right.

The problem with grey is that it's a cold colour and the black sofas add no warmth either. You need a wall colour with some warmth. You also need some artwork on the walls as they are big and blank.

I think C's layout suggestion could work wonders.

I don't know which way the room faces as to whether it would work but you could look at farrow and ball elephants breath with a dark feature wall of London clay (shown in the last pic) which looks to work with the carpet (or there are lighter shades of each paint). I agree re the layout, art, lamps etc. I'd also add a big plant to add some life. You can also lighten up the sofas with cushions and a throw, I like the dusky pink and mauves and you can pair this with lighter "browns". Some texture and pattern would be good for cushions.

Lol, my husband is never right too! I agree with Jen and if I'm ever right it's down to my own mistakes I've made!
