Cream & Black lounge

I have made cream and black Roman blinds, with matching cushions. All looks good but I need a dash of colour to brighten it up.
My sofa and two chairs are cream.
What colour walls, paint or paper ?
Would love your advice please.

Ha ha, movinghouseagain - just noticed your Ridgeback, I have Deerhounds! - you could always go for a lovely orange-rust colour in cushions to "compliment" your dog!x :) Just had another look - with the angle of the photo it could be a Hungarian Vizla?? Please put me out of my misery lol!

Hi. Are the blinds replacing the ones in the lounge or are they for the kitchen?

I'm replacing the ones in the lounge and using the black and cream fabric. Oh and that mirror is not staying.

Hi thanks very much for the useful hints and tips, they've really helped! So far I've done a subtle re-jig of the decorative items on the shelves and thinned them out a bit to make it less busy (and more contemporary). I have added a cushion and throw plus a bit more useful storage baskets and so far I'm happier with it now. I also have to consider the overall flow of the room rather than 1 wall - for example when I walk into the room this wall is on the left and the sofa wall is on the right, and there was a risk that if I added shelves etc on this wall it would then unbalance the look of the room as the sofa walls are so far pretty plain. I'm getting a new sofa next month and when this arrives I'll be able to see the room in its finished form and can make any last minute adjustments!! I want to add some more shiny stuff and will get a nice chrome tray or centrepiece for my glass coffee table. Pffft, this house decor lark can take over your life sometimes :))

Probably not. And besides, the wallpaper is green/brown/silver and your sofa will be slate grey. Then you're talking about adding a geometric cream and gold fabric chair! The furniture is on a completely different page from the wallpaper colours as well as the floral pattern.

Who helped you with the design of your kitchen? Did you get a 3D render so now what it will look like? I am afraid I agree with the above that if you can change it you should definitely go for the white gloss handle-less as it will look much cleaner. If you can not change at this point I am sure there are things we can look at and work tops that can help integrate the two colours. I think either is totally acceptable. You'll have to be careful with whites, they'll make the floor look dirty as it's cream. You'll be better off with palest cream or pale warm grey on the rest of the walls. Generally cream and white just don't sit well together.

I might try try farrow and ball elephants breath. I've copied this link over as some of the rooms have black accents so you can see how it works. It looks different in each room and will change with the light, if it's too dark their skimming stone is a lighter shade. If not olive looks nice with black. If you're feeling the need for a bit of colour, how about trying some artwork on the walls? You could also try buying a load of cushions, seeing how they look together at home and taking back what you don't like.

Hello movinghouseagain, I have to say I like the mirror! You could paint it to go with the new monochrome look. (old gold)... .. Maybe you could move the little plant things and have a geometric vase or something.. With monochrome you can accent it with golds and coppers for warmth.. Or old silver, nickel for a colder contemporary feel... For colour you could have something like scree by Little Greene, it's a nice grey and would work well with black and white and if you painted the fireplace wall it would accent the fire too... The mirror could then be old gold or a copper which would look fantastic against grey.. Are you keeping the pelmet on the curtains? Does this take away some of the light? I would also think about charcoals to compliment full black... : ))

My lounge is similar in colour tones, although the style is more modern! I update/change regularly with cushions and throws in various colours - i.e. black and yellow cushions, very vibrant multi-coloured ones, and for the winter months, arctic fur cushions and throws! I find this to be the most economical for my "change my mind" moods. At the moment I have very pale duck egg blue/green plain cushions and a multi-coloured throw (tonal of course)!

Welcome movinghouseagain Seems like you are already there with it. The silver does make it more subtle and muted that's true. The mirror could be antique silvered to achieve that look with ease.. Then you don't need to buy a new one.. : ))

was thinking the very same. cushions to match your dog! knew a family whose sofa matched their dog . no visible pet hairs and their dog similar in colour to yours the room was beautiful !

I would keep the colour out, it will just annoy you in the end. At least that is what happened to me! lol. A bunch of fresh flowers is all the colour you need. Lovely room by the way.

The photo you showed earlier looks to be different intensities of beige. Would you consider painting the walls (all of them) in a soft yellow? Introducing a rug with your colours like this one from Heal's would tie everything together. http://www.heals.com/seal-rug.html

Although the mirror is lovely, it throws the proportions of your fireplace out. A mirror no more than the width of the surround and taller would be better or a sunburst in a silver gilt finish.

Hello,

You have a beautiful, stylish living room! Yellow, silver, duck egg, red and blue would suit your living area. But even if you leave it the way it is now will look great just like the first image I collected for your inspiration. Is all kept neat and simple.

I would consider adding some warm colours and a different mirror or a large artwork instead the one you wish to change.

Add some decoration to the walls, they look empty but otherwise well done!
