Large L shaped lounge/ dining room

Hi everyone, This is my first new home as a single divorce and I'm looking for ideas how to lay out and style a large lounge diner.
The dining area is open plan from the kitchen with double patio doors to the garden.
The living area has large bifold doors to the garden and overlooks my pool and decking. The hallway looks into the lounge and through to the garden.
The only furniture I 'must' place is a large 60' flat screen. The rest of the furniture I am looking to buy new.

I'm struggling to organise furniture for the design since to view the TV on a wall the sofa would be on a very long wall and leave the top end next to the windows empty....the dining area is OK just a nice central table and chairs.

Please help with ideas.... I'm new to this.

Hi Joe !
Have drawn your room to scale and added a suggestion for furniture placement - the logic behind the floor pods and single chairs is that they are more versatile - you can use pods ( the multi coloured things) http://www.next.co.uk/shop/category-beanbags-0
Could be used infront of sofa as foot rests too and the single chairs can be turned to view the garden or used with the side table for chess games etc ! It's an idea ! Hope it gives you food for thought !!

Hi. You could try the sofa opposite the inglenook with the armchair where the sofa is and the tv to the right of the fire. Get a large rug to define the seating area, so that the legs of both sofas/ chair sit on the rug. Ideally I'd also add a large coffee table or footstool. I can't really see the bay end of the room to work out what is in it but formally arranged seating works along with area rugs. If you don't want to look at the back of the sofa, could the tv work in the other end?

Good morning! It looks like a lovely space; where is the kitchen relative to these rooms? Also, is the fireplace in that position, or are you planning to put it in? I ask because it doesn't show on the floor plan, but appears on your 3D plan. Just looking at this it might make sense to switch the table and sofa areas, as the living area then would be larger, however this depends on how the whole house fits together.

'it's a tricky one as it's a big space. The only thing for me that poses a small problem is the desk / office, so I hid it in a large double width storage unit, with a chair either side to be pulled round when in use. Opposite that is the bookcase by the window and a reading area with two armchairs. Further down, the dining area with large table for 8 people. This ties in by way of two large identical rugs to the lounge area with fireplace and T.V

Hi Joe, good luck with your new home! It's nice to see the room layout options from OnePlan, they could all work. With these lovely 3d drawings to look at there isn't a lot more to add other than....

I would definitely go for the TV on the interior (kitchen) wall as it makes best sense of the space. You could then do something fabulous, decoratively speaking, on the long wall and create a real wow factor.

The bi-fold doors are going to be your point of access to the garden, and let's hope we have sufficient good weather for you to use them a lot throughout the year. For this reason I would consider keeping the area near the bi-folds as clear as possible, maybe just having a lounge chair, footstool and coffee table here (I can imagine reading the Sunday papers and enjoying the view). A swivel chair is best so it can be turned into the room towards the sofa for conversation when you have company.

I am very lucky in that I live in a warm climate and get well over 300 days of sun a year. I was thinking about it and my problem was I was always left with an empty area, so my thoughts are now to put the TV where you have both said and to keep the area next to the bifold doors clutter free with perhaps a modern chase lounge at a 45 degree angle into the room with a large lamp in the corner behind that curves over the top of it. The end of the chaise lounge on a circular rug, so it gives a nice juxtaposition of oblong vs circle......Those are my thoughts for the moment anyway
