need help with kitchen layout - kitchen units deeper than window edge
Comments (13)I think that you need to leave a wider gap, 30cm is not wide and I think it will look like what it is, ie stopping the units so they don't get in the way of the french doors. I would go with a 60-80cm gap and make a useful feature out of it with floor to ceiling shelving. I've found a picture showing some shelving stepped back from regular depth units, so you get an idea. Another option is to use a rounded base unit if you like them and maybe put a stool or plant in the gap....See Morehelp with kitchen layout
Comments (10)hi Jonathan. thanks for replying and the great plan. £4/5k is what we have budgeted for the porch as I feel reluctant to get rid of it for good as i think the house would look ugly from the outside and could be a really useful space if done correctly. The plan you have done is similar to what's in my head but in my head my kitchen is a lot bigger Lol!! I think it has to be a peninsula from that wall doesn't it? and we couldn't have doors out into the garden as the garage is below the kitchen then another storey below that down into the garden. it's a wierd 60's house and we have just discovered 3 rooms and a corridor under the house at the side of the garage internal wall which we didn't even know was there as there was no access to any of it. with regard to the cupboard in the study that's a really good idea to use that space in the kitchen my only concern is because it's a supporting wall with a corner would you need a column there or could a lintel do the job? the more I think about it the more complicated it's getting. thank you for your help...See Morehelp with kitchen layout
Comments (3)Thanks oneplan and pjdklm. Excellent point about the job being right next to the utility door. I do not envision kids would be using that door much but stil a very good point. Sorry the only measurement that’s not accurate is the utility. It’s 5ft wide and we should be able to use it. We are going to use the washing machine 3-4 times a week so can manage. I also forget to draw the window above the sink which is already there. The sink is at the same place where the old utility’s sink is currently. I can possibly try to swap the window above the sink and the door and that would help me in bringing the hob and sink together on same surface. I am thinking of walling off the window completely as the old utility area also has a skylight but need to check again by blacking out the window and see the impact first. Wife is dead against a sink/hob on island and anyhow I am afraid it will get too congested. What are your thoughts about the rest of the plan? I really need some professional advice but oneplan you guys are not free until March and I want to get the work done ASAP as waiting to get the work done before we move in. Thanks again...See MoreHelp with kitchen layout - side return
Comments (5)Thanks.. and you think that is a better layout given the space, than the final one I posted? I think fundamentally it's unclear whether it will definitely be 4800 or could be slightly less, as the shell isn't built yet, which is what's causing my nervousness. It feels like 4800 is probably what you realistically need, so even shaving 100mm off that starts to make it feel tight. Kitchen designers have suggested we can go a touch narrower on the island to give more space to dining, which I might explore if the shell ends up less than 4800....See More- 8 years ago
