Kitchen Extractor, necessary?

Hi everyone,

we are in the process of buying an apartment whose kitchen we are planning to completely renovate. It's a very small but cute room. Luckily it's not open plan, I really dislike lingering food smells on the living room textiles. Two sides have doors ( to dining and corridor) and one side has a door and a large window to a kitchen balcony.

We would like to keep the layout and love the light that comes through the balcony, unfortunately there is not a huge amount of space for cabinets.

We are considering varioud options to add more storage and one is to eliminate the extractor, given that the kitchen has its own window and opening it should take smells, grease and steam away. We really love to cook and we do it a lot so I'm not sure this would work, on the other hand, what did people do before extractors?! :D

What do you think? Is it a good idea and do you have any personal experience?

Thanks a lot!
Sophie
