So that answers your question - if there's a current extractor in place ( you mentioned it down the thread ) then for BR you need to replace it with one that's as good or better. As you have to have one - then you might as well go for an efficient one in the correct place to do some good - especially as the size of the room has now increased and there may be soft furnishings that you don't want absorbing cooking vapours !
Ceiling above hob will be least invasive site . Or maybe a Downdraft ?!
Speak with your kitchen designer who might be able to point out other options !

You may need your builder to create housing for the ceiling extractor out of plaster work and add some down lights to it and it can look really well!

Or you could go for a suspended recirculating extractor which looks more like a design feature?

Things changed in 2023 - now if you are having any building work done and replacing or installing a kitchen you will need extraction at the rate of a minimum of 30litres per second if over the hob or 60litres per second if elsewhere in the room. If no building work involved it needs to be as good as or better than what was there before .
In a utility room with a sink it needs to be a minimum of 30litres per second. Hope that helps .
