Need Advice On Island Worktop
Comments (5)Hi I recognise that plan! Good to see you on another advice forum. Duropal make I think around 6 of their colours of laminate worktop upto 1200mm in depth. Really it all depends on where you are getting your kitchen from and their suppliers. For example if we are getting laminate worktop from a UK supplier then we get it from a 'cut and edge' worktop supplier, not just a 'blank' board supplier. A cut and edge worktop supplier will supply laminate worktop to a plan we provide, they will pre cut the masons mitre joints and profile all the edges. This is so much better than the fitter cutting blanks and gluing on laminate edges. I know from previous discussions on the other forum you were looking at Schuller kitchens, I assume this is not your choice now as you would not have these problems you are talking about with the laminate worktop, because Schuller have a huge range of laminate worktops, with lots of edge options and in all sizes! Anyway, ask your kitchen man about getting a price for the laminate worktop from a cut and edge specialist. CK...See MoreSolid wood worktops
Comments (11)Lol panacotta, well I think I could stretch to once every two years :) Thank you! Ruby Who - Oh dear, was it damage by the sink? AJ Interiors - (Helpful as ever! I received my scrubbing brush already :) I don't chop on surfaces anyway. I just wonder why they can't be glazed or laminated like my dining table. Going to speak to the chippy about that! Thank you everyone!...See MorePOLL: What's your kitchen worktop material?
Comments (127)Another vote for Dekton and Sileston Quartz worktops, use them all the time in our projects as so much more forgiving and low maintenance than granite or marble. Agree that Corian is a good option if you have a large island to prevent visible joins, whilst it has other benefits you do need to be very careful when it comes to heat. Vast range of colours and textures in all types nowadays so the type of material shouldn't limit the effect you want to achieve - be that traditional or contemporary. I am always a big advocate that a worktop is an investment, there is no point spending a large sum on a beautiful quality kitchen and then finishing it off with a worktop that won't stand up to time as well as the rest of the room or cheapen the look - I always recommend to go for the best you can afford....See MoreKitchen revamp - new doors and worktops
Comments (8)Thank you all for your comments. The quartz was fitted by Marble Building Products who work all over the country. www.mbpltd.co.uk Quartz is pretty hardwearing and stain resistant but as I tell all customers, care and common sense needs to be taken with all worktops. Personally I wouldn't put hot pans or chop on any worktop. Quartz is easy to clean and stain resistant but I would avoid strong substances such as neat bleach....See More- 8 years ago
