Kitchen end panels ??

Has anyone used kitchen worktops as end panels ? Or can this not be done ? Have white gloss cupboards and doors and currently white gloss end panels too . But have just replaced my worktops to give it a re-fresh in square edged light grey oak and really want end panels to match my worktops instead ! Am struggling to find a match in end panel though ! Please help !

Hi Kirsty

I think what you're after is what's called a 'waterfall edge' worktop...I had a quick browse on here and found a few that had been done with wood (see below). Probably your best bet is to talk to your worktop supplier and see if it's something they can do.

A standard base cabinet is 720mm high so one of those isn't going to be tall enough. I guess you'd be looking at a tall end panel (one that would fit on the side of a larder unit) and then cut it down if you're buying ready done. Alternatively some kitchen companies have edge banding machines and can buy in a gloss sheet and cut to size and edge it to the precise measurement. This is something that the company I work for does for customers. Do be aware that white gloss does come in different shades though so there might be a variation in shade. We are based in Staffordshire if that's any good.

The desk will have to move to where the old armchair is now, although it's super comfy it's also super tatty and old... Hi thanks for comment, it’s same company designing and fitting so there wasn’t a showroom as it’s a small local business. Just wondered if it will look odd to have a navy panel then the quartz waterfall end or if this is usually done like this in designs where there is a breakfast bar then a fridge or other cupboard in the island. They said that it’s done as there are panels next to fridge and so it balances it out having them at ends if that makes sense

I can’t quite tell from your picture if there is more damage to the panel itself, but at the very least it looks like the caulking job was appalling. You could try cleaning that up by scraping it off and trying again with someone who knows what they are doing. Alternatively you can also buy an adhesive bath sealant on a roll….it won’t look as nice but it will full cover up the messy edge.

I will be finishing my kitchen off with a waterfall worktop rather than an end panel. I am using marble laminate and getting my joiner (my dad!) to mitre the joint. Otherwise you'll need to over hang the top and butt up a piece underneath. You'll have to get edging strip to finish the end which doesn't always look as slick. If they're solid tops you probably won't have that issue. See if your joiner is confident enough to mitre for the best result.

Thank you . My worktop does overhang so it’s going to need to fit underneath! Have ordered edging strip also as cupboards are going to be slightly set back . Will put up a pic once finished! Fingers crossed it’s what I envisage. Thanks for your reply
