Looks like you have a great project on your hands.

For a space like this storage is key. Having an Ottoman storage bed is great for storing bed linen, footwear, handbags etc. It's great because items stay hidden and dust free without the need of too much furniture. Depending on what space is left you can accommodated for a stand alone wardrobe and an upholstered storage bench.

All dependent on where your electrical sockets are but I think having the dining area immediately to the right of the French doors would be my choice as it is probably an area that will not be used as often as the living area but being in the corner creates a separation between the living and kitchen space and has the best of both with natural light coming from both corners of the flat.

The living area I would have opposite the dining area. You could accommodate a small corner sofa here or a 2 seater sofa with one or two single seater chairs. By adding a rug as a central point here gives the feeling of comfort and breaks up the space.

This whole area can be styled in a way so it does not feel small with minimalist pieces and the use of neutral tones and fabrics.

Yes that's very similar to how my plan was - except the door to the bathroom would be at the front opening into the lounge so i wouldn't need a corridor between the bedroom and bathroom. I think because I had it semi open plan though so didn't need one.

Trying to work out if the shower room is best kept within the bedroom ie as an en-suite, or accessible from the living area?

Also if I made the bathroom more of a square and had wardrobe/storage at the back for the bedroom as no space in the actual bedroom to put a wardrobe as quite small.

Yes something like your image. You still get to keep a nice clear pathway to the garden and have a nice small dining area and a seated living space. If this image is similar (if not is) your space then having a breakfast bar will be beneficial. Or you could have a built in table affixed to the wall that could flip up (just thinking as an alternative but would to be a more in-depth and thought out idea as to what would suit and fit this space) and have a bench there as seating.

We have recently completed a granny flat in our renovations, its 33m2. Just remember, a wide shower will help an elderly person to get and out. Fewer obstacles in the way. Opt for a oven in a tall unit as its easier on the back. Entrances/ doors need to be as wide as possible to future proof in case a wheelchair or zimmer frame is required.

The annex was already built but not renovated so we inherited the layout, small spaces are the best to design - a lot of fun. We fitted the fridge freezer in the cupboard too so it looked like part of the wall.
