Mirrored splashbacks

I’m replacing my kitchen and will have pale grey painted units around the perimeter, with a cornflower blue island and a mottled pale grey granite work top. I’m struggling with choosing the splashbacks and would like to consider mirrored ones to keep it light and clean looking. Does anyone have any thoughts on the pros and cons?

Honestly, we had not a single report or complaint that one of our mirrored splashbacks cracked in last 6 months while I work here. All of our mirrored splashbacks are toughened, which is non-standard when it comes to mirror ones, so probably that is why.

Non-toughened splashbacks, in general, have an average durability of two weeks, selling these should be illegal or something :D

I'm sure this has been asked on here before.

It's not something we've ever been asked for so can't comment either way. Usually our customers opt for laminate, Quartz or glass.

I am fairly certain though that I recall one person saying theirs had cracked.

After I had posted I did see other chat about this. I would have been interested to hear from someone who had done it a few years ago, to see if they had any issues. We’ll see!

We installed a mirrored splash-back when we renovated our apartment and made the ground floor open plan. A year on, we are very happy with it- it draws more light into the kitchen, reflects the marina outside and although it shows up water splashes from the sink, think about wiping it down just as you would the countertop. You wouldn't go days without wiping down the countertops to keep them hygienically clean, so why would you spend 30 seconds more to wipe away the water splashes?

I am building a small but stylish (I hope) kitchenette alcove using Naked Kitchen cabinets and a corian worktop with integrated sink. I want to run a copper or mirrored worktop around the alcove which will have to incorporate slots for electric sockets. Does anyone have ideas for good outlets? We're in London. Thanks!

Hello. I’m considering installing a toughened mirrored splashback behind our hob. I have had some feedback that the toughening process can lead to the mirror giving a slightly distorted reflection. I wondered if anybody had any experience or thoughts on this? Thanks!

I'm also debating whether to get a mirrored splashback so have searched for old discussions about them and have read that people have experienced cracking. I wonder though if that was because they had gas hobs? Would it be any different with an induction hob maybe?

It's also possible to go for a really [bold splashback [(https://www.houzz.co.uk/products/copper-patina-glass-splashback-60x70-cm-prvw-vr~87224335)that can be used as a feature in your kitchen or [patterned splashbacks[(https://www.houzz.co.uk/products/pink-blossom-glass-splashback-60x70-cm-prvw-vr~87223858) which has a similar effect. (See examples attached).

Ive got mirror and couldnt be happiet with it. Ive had it for over a year now and no regrets. If you have a hob in front, it does have to be induction tho otherwise it may crack. I love the effect it gives on the room and how easy it is to keep clean. No cons...all pros from me!

Most of our kitchens are supplied with Bronze Or Grey Mirror. I have bronze mirror myself and really love it.

This is Bronze Mirror. Those look so much more sophisticated than standard mirror. Personally I wouldn't put standard mirror in a kitchen.

The Grey one looks much darker though almost black.

With Grey and blue I would go bronze mirror if the colours / floor looks good with

maybe pale metallic , pale grey with hint of blue look or i you fancy something more original (pricy though) That would look great:

Or natural polished marble? depending on your worktop exact colour ?

it will still reflect light and look very glossy.

You can also ask a glass splashback company to print marble effect for you.

I’ve drawn so many kitchens with mirror splash back recently - but my only concern is that if your kitchen is a mess - with a mirror - it will look twice as messy. For me personally - this would stop me from buying it - but I see how popular it is - so you must all be far tidier than I am !!! ;-)

Antiqued glass? Be aware that it is really low chance that the antiqued mirror splashback will be toughened. Most of the companies cannot replicate the antique mirror on a toughened glass, so make sure to get the written confirmation from the company that the splashback is toughened. If it is not, then it will not last longer than 2 weeks, to be honest, it is too easy to smash it accidentally with a pan.

We can do the toughened antique mirrors, whenever it comes to wall art or a splashback, just let me know if you would like to know the price, the only thing I just need is rough dimensions.

Our number is 020 3870 4399, keep it close at hand, as unfortunately, I am almost 100% sure that it is going to be a problem to find honest toughened antique mirror supplier in the UK.

people saying they crack - this is because of the glass. Just get highly polished metal sheet. This won’t crack and you can get it in all sorts of colours and finishes!

Toughened glass does not crack that easily. We treat it with hammer sometimes to present its durability to clients :).

Thanks for all comments. I went with toughened painted glass and it has been fine. Good looking and easy to clean. I decided against the antiqued glass only because at the end of the day it didn’t suit the finished kitchen. I still love the look of it, so maybe a bathroom...... My next project!

I think mirrored splash backs look great!! My friend has recently had one and I can defiantly vouch for the fact it makes the room stay light !!
