Open kitchen/diner/living room
Comments (6)Thanks for your comments. I think we've decided on wooden flooring throughout the open plan space but it's just what we do in living area. We had wanted carpet to get that warm cosy affect. We are considering under floor heating but I understand that can be expensive. I know we can put a rug down although I'm not sure whether that will have the desired warm and cosy feel. The other option is to fit carpet in a rectangle or circle shape in the living area. Just not sure how that's going to look and how best to join it to the wood so that it looks good. I've not seen open areas with carpet and tiles/wooden flooring...it seems that usually flooring is the same throughout with a rug in the living area. Any suggestions? I attach a plan which shows what it will hopefully look like. The dining table will go near to the patio doors. The sofa will be in an L shape with the back to the kitchen on one side and the other back to the dining area on the other side. Any flooring ideas would be appreciated!...See Moregarden inspiration
Comments (11)Adding to my previous comment, if anyone goes for the simplicity idea with seating at both ends to let you view the length of the garden, make sure the seating areas are offset to each other or it will look like goal posts. I notice though that you have quite a slope downwards. In my last modern house, this was a real problem but my husband built up a platform about a metre and then we created the summer house, pavilion, bistro area. Opposite corner was a large raised blocks of wood vegetable plot. We planted fruit trees along the bottom which meant we were looking across the tree canopy and had an abundance of fruit. Visiting my friends professionally landscaped modern Mediterranean square yesterday, designed on the 45 degree angle with some raised planter areas and bistro seating, there were two elements which held it together beautifully. Bright blue glazed containers everywhere, no exceptions. And reddish planting eg red robins and other shrubs. It is enviable !!...See MoreShower room design help please
Comments (8)If there is enough room for a rectangle shower you would really benefit from using the space that a curved shower leaves... something like the attached is what I would do with this. Never been sure about the value of a wall hung WC however....See MoreUpstairs hall console mirror
Comments (6)The rectangular mirror looks best at the moment however, I always think round mirrors offer a softer less geometric and staged feel. What about a bigger circle mirror or 2 circle mirrors set at different heights (or slightly different sizes). I found some lovely rounded screw caps at a well known DIY store that pop on the end of most dry wall and standard sized screws in brass, stainless and matte black if you were worried about the look of ghastly fixings. It makes the round mirrors with chain/strap for hanging look like a real design feature. All the best and please update us with finished images :) Charlie @ The Kitchen Lady UK www.thekitchenladyuk.co.uk...See More- 8 years ago
