Hello Yan, wanted to show you an idea of colour scheme for your bathroom. I decided to keep up with your layout idea and I noticed you like grey and wood in interior. In addition, SA contemporary style isn't much about colours but more about textures to keep interior simple and rich. In general, interior is neutral with couple of small colour accents, which can be easily updated or changed in time. There is no drama that sink in front of window! Moreover it gives fantastic advantages to use natural light. You can hang oval mirror at the window frame. In the evening hours, you can use illumination from wall light above window. Flooring is grey brushed concrete tiles with soft matt texture. Wood like porcelain tiles use for walls from the left and right, including curves. That's how you unite broken wall on a left and make it longer and identical. Tiles for walls around window and the opposite side ( including all curves and around door) should be the same - light grey with stone like texture. Grey tone on walls is lighter than on a floor. So, a few thoughts on the bathroom. Sorry, it's a bit of a read, but I have tried to keep it as short as possible ;) 1. I would not choose to spray paint the fixings/armatures, mainly as it would not work (or if, be costly), but also because spraying them gold would make your bathroom even more yellow-y; the cool silver tone of the fixings actually sets off the beige somewhat. So what I think you'd want to do is counterbalance the yellow with another colour, as someone else pointed out. This could be in the realm of blue, as it's complimentary to yellow and will balance it. But I think you could also balance the beige-y-ness with more white (or cream), as found in the ceiling. Which leads to the 2nd question. You could have some paneling put round the bath, there are aqua panels and suchlike, but I would advise make sure a really good tradesperson does the job, so you get it expertly done. It does not hurt to get some estimates and opinions in, to get an idea of what it would cost you. This also leads onto - 3. as it really depends on your budget, how much you change in the bathroom. If you are planning long-term, I'd say it's better to spend a bit more and do a proper makeover, but if the expense would not be justified, stick to a few amendmends to make it comfortable for the time being. You could think about changing the bath for a walk-in shower, for instance and have the floor re-tiled, or finished with another material in a light colour, which would free up space and also balance out the surrounding beige. This way you could also have more storage beside the sink area. If you don't want to loose the bath, you could just have the floor done, I'd say that tiling would be prefereable to painting it - or you could lay vinyl or some other flooring; either of the flooring choices should not be massively expensive, as it is only a small area. 4. Handles can be changed, but I could also suggest changing the whole unit. You could also swap the mirror cabinet for a wall-hung mirror, which would alleviate the awkwardness at the sink (I've seen that so many times!) and instead hang a bathroom cupboard next to it - possibly also open shelving. 5. As to 5. that depends what you'd want to use it for and would require a bit more in-depth analysis. 6. See 1. I would recommend very light, neutral colours, accented by some lush green plants - they always make everything look nicer! But it also depends on your personal taste and what colours you like. As mentioned before, blues and teals would work well, look for something cool in tone to counterbalance the warm beige, but also trust your gut feeling if you see something you like the look/feel of, as it will probably be right for you! For an ultra-modern style you should look at smooth, handle-free high-gloss fitted bathroom furniture . Keeping furniture off the floor and using wall-mounted cabinets makes the look even more contemporary. Large mirrors and chandelier style lighting can add drama and a touch of luxury to your bathroom creating a real “wow” factor. Feature a Feature Wall Feature walls have become ‘a thing’ in 2016 and they can be applied to the bathroom just as much as to a lounge or bedroom. Tongue and groove is ideal for enhancing the heritage theme. For modern themes consider large panels of wood-effect composite. If real wood and stone are pushing the budget too far there are excellent choices available in stone or wood effect materials and it’s becoming increasingly hard to distinguish the natural from the manufactured. Metals are also becoming trendy again with brass, copper and rose gold making being favourites for fittings and trims. 4.For Dramatic Effect Convention – what convention? Increasingly we are seeing free thinking in the bathroom space with the use of solid, intense colours and bold, uber-trendy patterns. Glitzing up plain white ceramics is becoming a popular thing. This year’s colours are elegant and rich – think rich aubergines, deep blues and powerful, impact greys. You need to be careful though – especially in a smaller bathroom as the colours can overwhelm the space so if you are going to incorporate a bold colour or two consider using them in single blocks. You can also introduce vibrant colour via high-gloss lacquered storage cabinets and coloured-glass or by selecting strikingly coloured wall tiles, you won’t be short of choices here. 5.Simply Showers Recreating the Spa- like theme has seen a rise in bathrooms without baths – just showers. Hello All, Thank you for all your comments! It's great to see how important these factors are to people (especially as this 'Old Age' shenanigans will be experienced by all one day!) With regard to the height of the toilet - the lady in question is in her late eighties, and we worked with her at each stage of the remodel, she tested the height of the toilet to make sure it was exactly where she wanted it and where she felt comfortable (the same with the grab handles). We also put the basin on a reinforced frame, so that she can use that as support, if needed. I think it must be the angle of the photograph as there is plenty of room to manoeuvre between the WC and the shower screen. Concealed cisterns are great for a project like this as they are such a space saving design. Using a reliable and recommended brand such as Gerberit puts your mind at ease that nothing should go wrong - especially if you use skilled plumber/tradesmen. Obviously nothing is perfect, which is why if anything should (and it is rare that it does go wrong) they come with a 25 year guarantee. You will also find that a maintenance hatch might be useful, and cause less stress if anything should go wrong. We have been fitting these types of systems for well over 20 years now and (*touch wood*) have not had a single problem! Importantly - Concealed cisterns and wall hung WC's provide the ideal easy-to-clean, and extremely hygienic surface. There are no obstacles to clean around or cisterns to clean under, just uninterrupted floor space, which can be cleaned easily in one go! For a project like this, one of the biggest advantages of concealed cisterns that are coupled with wall-hung WC's is that the user can adjust the height of the toilet to suit their particular height requirements. So often, floor-standing toilets don’t accommodate very tall, short or elderly individuals, making them uncomfortable to use. She has a lovely vase of bright flowers on the window sill, as a finishing touch and that's as far as the 'accessories' go (I did spot some orange towels, so that gives a splash of colour!)
